Tamera Mowry-Housley Opens Up About Raising Biracial Children

As an actress, Tamera Mowry-Housley is used to inhabiting different characters. The Hallmark star, who starred as Angela in “Scouting for Christmas” alongside Carlo Marks, has spent the last three decades making viewers believe she was someone else. But none of those personas is quite as vital to her as one: being mom.

“Being a mom is the best, most important job Iโ€™ve ever had, and truly the greatest gift,” she wrote in an Instagram post on Mother’s Day. But, in a recent Instagram video, Mowry-Housley revealed that she still sometimes has to explain why her biracial children look so different from each other.

She Gives Fans a Glimpse Into the Questions She’s Asked About Her Kids

The video’s caption reads: “Welcome to my reality. ๐Ÿ™ƒ Iโ€™m sure many parents of bi-racial kids can relate.”

It presents two sides of a conversation: Mowry-Housley’s and People/Them. The song “I Have One Daughter” by Lewky plays in the background, which Mowry-Housley is singing along to while the conversation appears on the screen.

People: “Oh my gosh cute kids! Are they yours?”

She points at herself before smiling.

Me: “Yes. They are.”

Them: “Both of them?”

At this point, she looks puzzled by the question, and “…….” appears before she smiles.

Me: “Yes they are both my children.”

Them: “But they look so different. How is that possible?”

Mowry-Housley looks both annoyed and bewildered before she regains her composure.

Me: “They are biracial and pulled different genes from each one of us. Cool, huh?”

Them: “They are both from the same dad? One has blue eyes and the other has brown.”

At this, she looks a bit more annoyed.

Me: “Yes. Thats how genetics work — sometimes one child inherits more genes from one parent than the other.”

As the video finishes, Mowry-Housley appears to burst out laughing.

Tia Mowry-Housley Reveals how Her Kids Take After Their Parents in Adorable Family Insight

Mowry-Housley and her husband, Adam, have two kids together. Their oldest son, Aden, is 12 years old, while their daughter Ariah is 10. Previously, the former “Sister, Sister” star has talked about her kids’ personalities, explaining that Aden is more like Adam, and Ariah is more like her.

โ€œSheโ€™s my mini-me,โ€ย she told People shortly after Ariah was born. โ€œShe looks so much like me as a baby, itโ€™s scary! She has my eyes and my cheeks โ€” I had the droopy little cheeks.โ€

A couple of years later, she told Momtastic that Aden’s personality was more like Adam’s, while Ariah’s was more like hers.

Heโ€™s like his dad; he canโ€™t sit still,” she said about Aden. “But he just loves to cuddle at bedtime. Ariah is my chill babyโ€”sheโ€™s more like me.”
