It’s a good thing social media’s been flooded with birthday wishes for Tyler Hynes. Otherwise, the Hallmark heartthrob could have literally forgotten he was turning the big 4-0 on May 6, 2026.
Three weeks before his big day, as he crashed in his New York hotel room after promoting the premiere of “I’ll Be Seeing You,” the first Hallmark rom-com he not only starred in but executive produced, Hynes told EntertainmentNow that he hadn’t thought at all about his birthday. That, it turns out, is not unusual for the laid-back star, but his fans are making sure this one won’t pass him by without a bit of literal fanfare.
Tyler Hynes Reveals How He Approaches Each Birthday
HallmarkWhen asked how he felt about turning 40, Hynes told EntertainmentNow, “It feels like it always did. I never put a ton of stock into all of it — age, numbers, timing, my birthday.”
“For a long time, I thought my birthday was my brother’s birthday,” Hynes laughed. “That’s how much I cared. My mother corrected me when she heard me say that to somebody when I was, like, in my teens. She was like, ‘Are you okay?’ That’s not your birthday!’ I’m like, ‘I don’t care.'”
To this day, Hynes admitted his birthday “always comes as a surprise,” noting, “I do have very kind friends who’ve thrown surprise parties and stuff, but I genuinely don’t ever expect it and don’t think much about it.”
Hynes continued, “The only thing I do do, if the day comes and I’m like, ‘Oh, it’s my birthday,’ is I just do whatever I want to do that day, whatever that might be, with no pressure. It’s like, if anybody wants to join me, they can. If they don’t want to join me, that’s okay, too. Whether that’s just, like, doing nothing or doing something very random and unexpected. Whatever that is, I’ll just do it.”
When pressed to think of something he might love to do on his birthday, Hynes told EntertainmentNow, “If I think about that, yeah, there was a time a while ago where a group of friends of mine I’ve grown up with all got together. My brother was in town in Toronto. We all went to a Dave & Buster’s type thing, and that was really nice. Maybe I’ll want to do that, see everybody, but who knows if I actually will.”
Tyler Hynes Has a Hilarious & Relatable Goal as He Ages
GettyWhile some see entering a new decade as daunting, Hynes told EntertainmentNow he actually relishes the chance to grow older. In fact, it’s why he made “I’ll Be Seeing You,” inspired by a generation of stars he’s had the chance to work with over the years, from Christine Ebersole to the late Paula Shaw.
Hynes said he’s also perfectly comfortable with all of the wrinkles and scars that may come with aging, joking (we think!), “I’ve always had the body of a 90-year-old, so it’s like I’m somewhere meeting myself in the middle.”
The “Groomsmen” star then told EntertainmentNow, “Jonathan Bennett and other folks laugh at me because my goal is to grow up as — frankly, I want to look like a leather-bound bag when I’m older. I want to be that leathery guy on the beach who’s eating too much pasta, just doesn’t care anymore. This is my goal.”
Fans & Fellow Stars Are Flooding Tyler Hynes With Birthday Greetings
Hynes’ global fandom, affectionately called Hynies, insists their Hallmark king is only getting better with age. Several fans pulled together a touching and funny collection of videos and photos from fellow Hynies as well as multiple Hallmark Channel stars and creatives, all wishing him a happy 40th.
And we have confirmation he does, in fact, know it’s his birthday! In the comment section of the social media post, Hynes gushed, “My goodness. Not sure what I did to deserve to be amongst such incredible human beings. Every video. Every picture. Every sentiment. Lovely 🤍🙏🏻🥹 thank you 🫠”
