We came up with 10 scenes (hard to pick only 10) that stood out to us as the most tear-jerking in the show’s history.
1. Jack Thornton’s Death (Season 5)
Nothing prepared viewers for the death of Jack Thornton. He was killed in a training accident while serving as a Mountie.
His off-screen death and the montage that followed left fans shocked. Then, watching Elizabeth process the news, and the town mourn alongside her, remains the show’s most heartbreaking moment. I mean, Elizabeth reading Jack’s final letter, could I cry even more tears?
2. Elizabeth Finds Out She Is Pregnant (Season 5/6)
Shortly after the loss of her husband, Elizabeth learns she is pregnant with his child. This scene is layered with both grief and hope.

We went more modern in season 11 of “When Calls the Heart. This is when we found out that Little Jack had diabetes.
We got a chance to see Elizabeth have fear because of her son’s illness. However, we then go to see Little Jack’s bravery during the process. This just added a new layer of realism and vulnerability to the show.
4. The Coal Valley Mine Disaster (Season 1)
Hope Valley has long been a symbol of resilience. Before that symbol came to be, the town endured tragedy. In the first season, a coal mine explosion claimed the lives of several men.
We know how widows in town, children without their fathers. The church scenes were just raw grief. We also saw Abigail step up to lead the town, which set an emotional tone for the entire show.
5. Cody’s Illness (Season 4, Episode 11)
