During the January 18 episode of Hallmark’s “When Calls the Heart,” a difficult moment regarding the fire at Goldie National Park got fans talking.
An investigation into how the fire started is underway, and two young Hope Valley residents bravely opened up about their concerns that they may have been responsible.
After the episode aired, fans shared their thoughts about Toby (Billy Christos Jr.) and Cooper’s (Elias Leacock) admission.
One “When Calls the Heart” fan praised the young actors for their performances. “This scene was full of so much emotion! Can’t wait to see this story unfold!”
WCTH Fans Gushed Over Young Actors Billy Christos Jr. & Elias Leacock
A sweet Instagram post shared by Christos attracted a flurry of comments from “When Calls the Heart” viewers. The photo showed Christos and Leacock, dressed as their characters, standing on either side of Elizabeth (Erin Krakow).
As viewers saw in episode 3 of “When Calls the Heart” season 13, Toby and Cooper shared a brave and powerful admission with their teacher, Elizabeth. The scene came right at the end of the episode, and it was a heavy moment.
One fan commented, “That ending tonight brought tears! Hoping it’s just a coincidence.”
Toby and Elias told Elizabeth that they thought they may have been the ones who started the fire, albeit accidentally.
The two explained that before the fire, they had been hiking in the woods and stopped to make something to eat. They admitted that there had been a small spark of fire at the time.
The boys thought they fully extinguished it. Now, they explained to Elizabeth, they fear they may not have been successful.
“I’m so glad Toby and Cooper had the courage to tell the truth,” another “When Calls the Heart” fan commented on Christos’ Instagram post.
Cooper & Toby’s Admission Sets the Stage for an Intense Storyline Going Forward
Another Hallmark fan commented, “You two are very talented. You tugged at my heartstrings tonight.”
Someone else raved, “FANTASTIC job @billy_christos_jr, that was THE best moment of the show, when you spoke about trust! I just loved it all, and I was definitely needing my tissues after that!”
“Omg I cried at the end so good,” read an additional response.
“I’m wondering if someone came along AFTER & got it going again, making the boys think they were responsible,” suggested another “When Calls the Heart” viewer.
There has been no shortage of potential suspects during the investigation into the fire. However, if indeed Toby and Cooper accidentally started the fire, that sets the stage for a difficult path forward for everybody in Hope Valley.
“When Calls the Heart” star Kevin McGarry, who plays Nathan, recently suggested that the fire investigation continues throughout season 13. Could that mean it wasn’t Toby and Cooper who started the fire after all?
McGarry shared during a podcast appearance that the investigation “sends an arc that affects every character right up until the final effort.”
He added that in terms of who is responsible for the fire, “It’s sad. It’s not a great thing, but it brings out the best in a lot of the characters.”
“The town really comes together to solve a massive problem and doing so, everyone grows a little bit in certain ways,” he teased.

I still think old man McGinty actually started it.
I agree with you
I had a feeling the boys had a secret, that some how they were responsible (or felt they were). I also think that nasty smug McGinty is responsible, but he will gladly let these poor kids take the fall, at least temporarily’
Feeling like the boys are not responsible but that McGinty is and he hears that the boys think they are responsible and he continues to deny his actions. I think Nathan and Co. will find indisputable evidence that McGinty is the culprit.
The two young men felt they needed to tell what they did. It was iportant they told what happened. I think Mr. McGinty started the fire and as the investigation goes forward his setting the fire will come out. It will be a very difficult time for the young men as they feel so badly about what they may have caused! They did a fantastic acting job!
I agree with all the comments 100%
I don’t think the boys started the fire, and I don’t think it’s the obvious, Mr. McGinty either, it’s someone else.
Love those boys!
