Bobby Berk Insists He Didn’t Try to Upstage Former Co-Stars With HGTV News: ‘Swear on My Mother’s Life’

HGTV and Bobby Berk made headlines on July 10, 2025, announcing that the former “Queer Eye” star was joining the network with his own show.

While most people were thrilled, some noted the big news came the day after Netflix announced the final season of his former show. The timing left some to wonder — including one of his former co-stars — if it was an intentional attempt to overshadow the “Queer Eye” news. But Berk insisted to People on August 22 that it was a total coincidence.

Bobby Berk Was Replaced on ‘Queer Eye’ by Former HGTV Star Jeremiah Brent

Berk’s new show, “Junk or Jackpot,” is executive-produced by actor John Cena and slated to premiere in late 2025. Once HGTV announced the show on July 10, the interior designer shared his own post, with an official description of the show that said viewers would see “the former #QueerEye star following collectors as they discover the true monetary value of their extremely unusual trinkets. From rare puppets to dolls and superhero figurines, surprises await at every turn!”

An interior designer who spent eight seasons transforming people’s spaces on “Queer Eye” before he left the show in 2023 amid a bit of tension, Berk was replaced by former HGTV star Jeremiah Brent for the final two seasons of the series.

When People asked whether the timing of Berk’s HGTV announcement was intentionally made the day after “Queer Eye” announced its final season, he replied, “I have to say, I swear on my mother’s life, my show announcement date was set. No, this was planned. Show announcements don’t happen on a whim.”

He admitted he’d received criticism over the timing, People reported, including from “Queer Eye” co-star Karamo Brown. Berk recalled, “Even Karamo was like, ‘Girl, the day after?’ I’m like, ‘No, no, no. I promise you it was already planned.'”

Berk continued, “Some people were like, ‘Couldn’t you have waited?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, yes, but no.’ I mean, (Netflix) could have easily given me a heads-up on when that was going to be announced. I mean, I was on the show for (eight) seasons, but yeah, it’s fine.”

Bobby Berk Will Help People ‘Sift Through Their Cherished Items’ on New Series

When Berk left “Queer Eye,” there were lots of rumors that he had a falling out with co-star Tan France. Berk confirmed to Vanity Fair in 2024 that they’d had a disagreement, but wouldn’t provide details.

He told Vanity Fair, “Tan and I had a moment. There was a situation, and that’s between Tan and I, and it has nothing to do with the show. It was something personal that had been brewing — and nothing romantic, just to clarify that.”

Looking ahead, Berk is pumped for the six-episode season of his new HGTV show after appearing on the network for the first time as a judge on 2025’s “Rock the Block.”

In a statement from HGTV, he said, “I’m excited to help passionate people sift through their cherished items and give them reimagined spaces that will best honor what they hold dear.”

An exact premiere date has not been released for “Junk or Jackpot,” but HGTV confirmed it will debut in late 2025.
