Jasmine Roth Explains Why Her Family Decided to Move to Utah
On October 21, Roth took to Instagram to give fans the scoop on why her family made the move.
“Why did you move to Utah? This is the most common question I’m asked and I’m pretty sure I have a different answer each day,” she wrote in the caption. “Probably because the real answer is complicated, it’s layered, it’s too long for casual conversation.”
The HGTV star continued, “Here’s today’s answer: We moved to Utah because we were chasing a sense of ‘calm’ that we couldn’t quite find in California. I’m not sure why we thought a change in geography might work because I’m fairly certain the calm we’re chasing is internal and probably more rooted in personality traits than a change of scenery.”
“But I’d also be lying if I said it isn’t working,” Roth noted.
She added, “There’s definitely a lot ‘less’ here (less people, less traffic, less shopping, less options, less noise) but it’s helping us make room for a whole lot ‘more.’ More time together, more quiet, more nature, more focus, and overall more calm. So I guess all that to say — if you need me I’ll be right here.”
Fans flooded the comments section with praise for Roth’s family move. “We all get to the point where ‘less is more.’ Good for you and your family for being one of the few that actually take action on it,” one fan noted.
Another person wrote, “People find calm in different spaces. I want less noise and traffic too. California is a huge state with plenty of open naturally beautiful spaces, even less populated areas, top to bottom. I need to be near the ocean, that’s my calm. I don’t do snow! Good for you and your family.”

Roth Shared She Didn’t ‘Have a Great Answer’ to the Moving Question
Roth is asked so often about her family’s move that she addressed it earlier in the year.
On January 23, Roth took to Instagram with a sweet video of her baby, Darla Rose, and the text: “I’m not sure how to answer this question … more in caption.”
In the caption, the HGTV star shared, “‘Why did you move?’ It makes sense that I’m asked this question every day — our family just moved to a new state. But ‘why’ is such a big question and the truth is — I don’t really have a great answer.”
Roth continued, “I stumble through a story about how @brettrothofficial and I love snowboarding (we do!) and while that’s true, is that really the reason? Is it because we were ready for a change? Is it because we wanted a slower pace? Is it because we needed a new challenge? Is it the nature? The seasons? Is it that Utah is our happy place?”
The HGTV star shared that “all of these reasons are true,” but noted, “it feels like a lot to rattle off when trying to answer a casual question. 🤭”
Roth added, “Either way, we’re here and we’re doing it!”
