It’s no secret that Kylie Jenner lives a lavish lifestyle filled with top-notch luxuries. That includes her vast amount of pricey purses. Or, to be more specific, her “eye-popping Birkin collection,” as E! News calls it.
The reality TV star and entreprenuer has just taken to social media to show off her shelves that are covered in super-expensive Hermès bags.
The Birkin Post Included Addison Rae’s ‘Money is Everything’
Jenner took to Instagram to share various photos that seemed to all show her at home. Some images see her posing on a couch, standing in front of her bookcases and giving her followers a look at the heart-shaped accessories on her teeth. Then, in two of the pics, there they are!
The star shared selfies, and in the background was her “massive collection of over 50 Hermès bags — including rare Birkins,” according to People.
“The beauty mogul snapped a pic in front of a massive wall of Birkins and Kellys ranging in size, color, and materials,” The Zoe Report notes. “It was always a known fact that Jenner loved her Hermès bags, but seeing them displayed all in one place was truly mind-blowing. She captioned the post, ‘Can’t a girl have fun,’ with a pink bow emoji at the end — which made the whole thing feel cheeky and playful.”
“Despite acting lighthearted, Jenner is clearly very serious about her personal Hermès archive, display[ing] potentially millions of dollars on the shelves behind her,” The Zoe Report points out. “The post was even set to the Addison Rae song, ‘Money is Everything,’ speaking volumes.”
‘It’s Not a Bag — It’s a Birkin’
What exactly is a Birkin bag? Any fashion-lover will be able to tell you that it’s far from being just another purse.
First, a little history. “Who could have imagined that one of the most coveted objects of recent decades would be born in the sky, in 1984, on a flight from Paris to London?” asks Hermes. “British actress Jane Birkin, sitting next to Jean-Louis Dumas, Executive Chairman of Hermès (1978-2006), was complaining that she couldn’t find a bag suitable for her needs as a young mother.”
“A born creator with a keen eye, he immediately sketched a supple and spacious rectangular holdall with a burnished flap and saddle stitching,” per Hermès. The design also included “a dedicated space for her baby’s bottles!”
Granted, over the years, it became much more than a baby bag. Indeed, [t]he cultural impact and highly-coveted nature of the Hermès Birkin is perhaps best captured in a season four episode of Sex and the City,” according to Harper’s Bazaar. “When Samantha Jones decides that she wants one, she’s told by a sales associate that there’s a five-year waiting list. ‘For a bag?’ Samantha replies, incredulously. ‘It’s not a bag. It’s a Birkin,’ the associate declares.”
Harper’s Bazaar explains that “the luxurious Hermès handbag has become an accessories icon, favored by stars like Jennifer Lopez and Dua Lipa, and retailing for around $12,000 (while resale prices are often double, or triple, that number).”
Harper’s Bazaar also notes that, “[i]n that same episode of Sex and the City, Samantha claims that once she’s able to get her hands on the bag, she’ll know she’s made it — and that same assertion could certainly be made for Kylie Jenner…”
