New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani has a surprising new collaboration with a music superstar.
Cardi B will be teaming up with the mayor to judge a competition supporting what she calls a “very important” issue.
Musician To Judge Jingle Contest
GettyIn a video posted to the NYC Mayor’s Office channel, it was announced the “Please Me” rapper will be judging a contest for Mamdani’s 2-K program, which he describes as “just like 3-K, just like Pre-K, but 2-K for two-year-olds.” The program will offer 2,000 free seats to aid with childcare.
“Can you believe that we got a 34-year-old mayor? I feel like I’m a kid and you’re like, running New York,” she tells Mamdani.
When Mamdani asks Cardi B what she thinks about childcare, she replies that it is “very important.”
“Sometimes us women, we can’t really go forward because we don’t have nobody to help us take care of our kids,” she said.
GettyMamdani tells Cardi that he will be hosting a competition in support of the program, which starts enrolment in June.
“We’re going to have a competition to create a jingle,” he tells her. “So New Yorkers are going to submit their best jingle, and we wanted to know if you would help judge that competition.”
“Oh, I would judge it for sure,” the star replies enthusiastically.
“The Mayor’s going to help you… I’m going to judge, and he’s going to give, because he’s the one with the funds.”
Motherhood For Cardi B: It “Really Rocks Your World”
GettyCardi B is no stranger to being a working mom. She is mother to daughters Kulture, 7, and Blossom, 18 months, and son Wave, 4, with her ex Offset. She also recently gave birth to baby boy born in November 2025.
“Something changes in you, and that’s all moms,” she said in an Allure interview. “A new you is born.”
She shared similar feelings in an interview with Vogue, during which she discussed being a working mom.
“This is my coping mechanism,” she said, referring to her decision to go on tour shortly after giving birth. “I don’t want everybody thinking it’s the same for them … Having your first baby really rocks your world. It is a big deal. And it is hard. And it is life-changing.”
