Dolly Parton fans are rejoicing as the late singer and actress continues to break records even in the wake of her passing. Dolly has now topped the Billboard Hot 100 Songwriters Chart for the first time in her career, thanks to fans streaming her songs so much.
Dolly passed away at the end of August at the age of 80, devastating millions of fans across the world. Her family broke the news of her passing on social media, then a matter of hours later her team confirmed the cause as a form of cancer.
Dolly’s Achievement
Billboard announced yesterday that Dolly had achieved chart domination on their Hot 100 Songwriters chart, primarily thanks to three of her hit songs – “Jolene”, “9 to 5”, and “I Will Always Love You”.
They shared: “Parton’s posthumous chart surge is led by three of her signature compositions on the September 5-dated Billboard Hot 100. “Jolene” reenters at No. 16, “9 to 5” returns at No. 18, and “I Will Always Love You” debuts at No. 27. Parton solely wrote all three songs.
“Jolene” previously peaked at No. 60 on the Hot 100 in 1974, while “9 to 5” topped the chart for two weeks in 1981. Parton’s original 1974 recording of “I Will Always Love You” had never previously appeared on the Hot 100.
“The three songs also rank at Nos. 7, 8 and 12, respectively, on the Hot Country Songs chart, giving Parton her first No. 1 on the Country Songwriters chart. “Coat of Many Colors,” another song solely written by Parton, also reenters Hot Country Songs at No. 21.”
On the chart writers earn points on songs they have written as well as co-written, and then these points are added together overall to decide who gets the top spot.
Dolly’s Family Sharing The News of Her Passing
Dolly Parton’s family posted a video message to her social media profiles today announcing that she had passed away. Bryan Seaver read out the tragic news, speaking to a camera. He shared: “Hey everyone, my name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I am representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean.
“Sister, sis, aunt, granny to one generation, and Gigi to the next. This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now. It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, but not with Dolly.
“Dolly has lived in the light […] met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens. […] Dolly also opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers from every walk of life , and across every continent. By her example, we believed that anything was possible.
“She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history. My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you. She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD, and your phone playlist becoming an extended part of your family.”
