Legendary Guitarist Eric Clapton Suffers Scary Incident During Spain Concert

The legendary English rock and blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter Eric Clapton experienced a scary incident during a recent show. However, music fans shouldn’t worry, because he’s absolutely fine!

Clapton, 81, was performing in Spain’s capital city, Madrid, on Thursday, May 7, as part of his ongoing tour. Unfortunately, someone in attendance threw an object at him.

In these crazy times, such an incident is bound to cause momentary panic, at the very least. On this occasion, however, it could have been a lot worse.

Someone Threw a Vinyl Record at Eric Clapton

There’s a video of the incident doing the rounds on social media. In said video, Eric Clapton can be seen being hit by what appears to be a vinyl record while he’s on stage in Madrid.

Clapton had just finished performing “Cocaine,” his 1977 cover from the iconic album “Slowhand.” He was walking off stage when he was struck in the torso by the projectile.

The item bounced off him, prompting Clapton to pause briefly before continuing to make his way off the stage.

At other concerts on his current tour, Clapton returned to the stage to play another cover, “Before You Accuse Me,” as an encore. However, per Guitar World, following the unfortunate throwing incident in Madrid, he didn’t come back out.

But the fact Clapton wasn’t injured or mentally scarred by the incident became apparent on Sunday, May 10. That evening, he played his next show in Barcelona as scheduled, .

Per Eric Clapton’s official website, Mannheim, Germany, on Wednesday, May 13. His tour will then move on to Koln, Germany (Friday, May 15), Munich, Germany (Sunday, May 17), Sandringham, England (Sunday, August 23), Detroit, Michigan (Sunday, September 6), Cincinnati, Ohio (Tuesday, September 8), Chicago, Illinois (Friday, September 11), Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Sunday, September 13), Saint Paul, Minnesota (Tuesday, September 15), Kansas City, Missouri (Thursday, September 17), and, finally, to Austin, Texas (Saturday, September 26, and Sunday, September 27).

Eric Clapton has had a monumentally successful career.

Per Discgogs, his back catalogue includes no less than 71 albums, 213 singles and EPs, and 324 compilations, as well as various miscellaneous works.

In addition to being a solo artist, he’s performed as a member of many bands and groups. They include The Yardbirds, John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, Cream, The Dirty Mac, Plastic Ono Band, Blind Faith, Delaney & Bonnie, and Derek and the Dominos.

His accolades include a BAFTA, two Billboard Music Awards, an Echo Music Prize, 17 Grammy Awards (plus the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award), two Primetime Emmy Awards, and being a three-time entrant into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (making him the only person to ever achieve that feat).

We’d like to wish Eric Clapton all the very best with the rest of his tour. We’re also glad he’s okay following the incident in Madrid. Here’s hoping nobody else throws anything at him during his coming shows — for someone to have done such a thing to a legend like him is shameful.
