Hear Anne Hathaway Sing in Her Pop Star Movie ‘Mother Mary’: VIDEO

When fans previously got a glimpse at Anne Hathaway as a pop star in “Mother Mary,” she was slaying platinum blonde hair. Now, you can check out the star singing a new playlist-worthy tune for the upcoming film.

Indeed, “Hathaway is debuting the first song from her new pop star movie,” according to People. “On Thursday, March 5, A24 announced that a single from Hathaway’s upcoming psychological thriller Mother Mary titled ‘Burial’ has landed on all streaming services.”

People explains that “[t]he song, which was written by Hathaway, 43, alongside real-life pop star Charli xcx, Charli’s husband (and The 1975 drummer) George Daniel and Jack Antonoff, is a synth-pop track that features sweeping vocals from Hathaway and a repeated refrain: ‘This is your burial.'”

Beyond that, “A24 released the song alongside a 30-second YouTube video from Mother Mary titled Greatest Hits (Official Album Teaser), which shows Hathaway in character as she performs songs like ‘Burial’ onstage in front of a crowd.”

Fans Want to Know If Hathaway Is ‘IN [HER] MUSIC ERA?’

Both Hathaway and A24 shared the “Mother Mary” video on Instagram, which sparked plenty of excited comments.

“Anne don’t even know she’s gonna win a Grammy for this,” one person wrote.

Another fan added, “Annie, living her pop star dreams 🙌👏🔥”

“Need to stream this IMMEDIATELY,” wrote a thrid person.

Someone else left a comment, saying, “IN YOUR MUSIC ERA???”

Hathaway Plays ‘a Sort of Gaga–Taylor Swift Hybrid’

Vogue caught up with Hathaway in July 2025, while she was recording music for the movie with superstar songwriter and producer Jack Antonoff.

“Hathaway and Antonoff are spending this first balmy spring Saturday tucked away at a Manhattan studio because they are in the final stages of transforming famously plucky Anne Hathaway, movie star with a megawatt smile, into a moody pop diva,” Vogue explained.

At the time, Hathaway was “record[ing] songs for David Lowery’s upcoming film Mother Mary, in which Hathaway plays the title character—a sort of Gaga–Taylor Swift hybrid who is, uh, having a moment. And not ‘having a moment’ in the sense of basking in the glow of public adoration, but something more like its opposite.”

“Searching for her own center and finding only darkness, she has fled her tour and sought out the old friend (played by Michaela Coel) who helped craft her all-consuming public persona in the first place,” Vogue continued. “It’s a strange, indelible film—which won’t surprise anyone familiar with Lowery’s previous work (The Green Knight, A Ghost Story). Hathaway coveted the part, she says, and it wound up challenging her more than any previous role.”

Hathaway appears in the movie along with Kaia Gerber, Hunter Schafer, Atheena Frizzell, Jessica Brown Findlay, Alba Baptista, Isaura Barbé-Brown, Sian Clifford and FKA twigs.
