Netflix star Catherine Zeta-Jones wrote a heartfelt Instagram post about what she called a “weekend of profound sadness.” She referenced three horrific events that happened within the last week, including Australia’s Bondi Beach shooting, Brown University’s shooting, and the apparent murder of actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner in their home, which police are accusing their son Nick of committing.
Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Profound Tribute
Zeta-Jones took to Instagram on December 15, 2025, to express her frustration with the numerous tragedies that occurred in the days prior. “After a weekend of profound sadness, my heart is heavy,” she began her post.
Australia’s Bondi Beach shooting, which NBC News said took 15 lives, targeted a Hanukkah event in Sydney. More than two dozen people are currently hospitalized due to the devastating event. Of the violence, Zeta-Jones asked, “Why can’t Jews celebrate their holiday on a beach in Australia without being massacred?”
Another calamity happened closer to home when a gunman took the lives of two Brown University students, according to the BBC. Of this horrendous episode, Zeta-Jones wrote, “Why can’t young students study in a classroom without being gunned down?”
Finally, Zeta-Jones wrote in memory of the late Reiner, writing, “Why do our friends need to be killed in their homes?” Reiner and his wife were found dead in their home after what the Los Angeles Police Department is calling a murder.
Zeta-Jones lamented that “hate, violence, and abusive rhetoric has permeated to levels of unimaginable toxicity. Across the board. Everywhere. Over 8 billion of us on this planet. We can’t expected to be liked or to like everyone. We can’t expect to agree with everyone or for everyone to agree with us. But why does one have to be killed for it. There is room for us all here on a heavenly earth.
“Hell is filling up pretty quick,” she wrote.
