During a January 21 appearance on the “What’s the Reality?” podcast, Colleen, 30, explained that she and Matt, 29, flipped a coin the night before they were set to make their decision.

“We say, ‘Okay, heads we say yes, tails we say no,’” the professional ballet dancer told guest hosts Giannina Gibelli and Blake Horstmann. “We just kept flipping a coin, flipping a coin, and I would say, ‘Two out of three times.’ I truly did not know what to do. And he didn’t know what to do.”

Colleen went on to add that they closed the night by simply saying, “I’ll see you at the altar.”

However, Matt ultimately said yes, and she was content with his answer.

“So I was just like, ‘Yeah, sure, let’s do it,’” she explained.

While the pair ultimately went through with the wedding, their marriage didn’t last.

“We wanted to share something personal, and this is not easy to do, but after nearly four years together, we’ve decided to end our marriage and move forward on our own paths,” the statement posted via Instagram on May 23, 2025, read. “We’ve been separated for some time now and have been doing our best to work through everything privately and with care.”

“It came with a lot of thought and it’s been an emotional process for both of us,” their message continued. “We met in the most unique and unexpected way, and we’ll always be grateful for the love and memories we’ve shared. There’s not one thing we would change, and we continue to have deep respect and care for one another.”

Colleen later opened up about the breaking point in their relationship during the same podcast appearance.

“We finally just hit that point where it was like, ‘You know, we can’t do this anymore. We’ve tried it so many times and it hasn’t been successful,’” she explained. “We just looked at each other on
November 16th, and we were like, ‘We literally can’t do this anymore.’”

The former reality star’s desire to have a big family also played a part in their decision to split. Colleen said that while she was willing to freeze her eggs to ensure they had children in the future, it wasn’t something she would do if they weren’t “madly in love with each other.”
