He’s known for giving makeovers on “Queer Eye,” but now Netflix star Tan France is shocking fans with a transformation of his own.
The style guru took to Instagram on April 29 to show off his new look, stunning both his co-stars and fans in the process.
And while France is in his 40s, he insists a midlife crisis had nothing to do with his drastic decision.
Tan France Debuts New Look
The “Queer Eye” star showed off his transformation in an Instagram video, in which the normally gray-TV personality is seen rocking a much darker ‘do. “NOT mid-life crisis hair,” he captioned the post.
“Don’t freak out. I know my hair’s dark, it’s fine. Well, it’s not,” began France. “I know it’s very weird to see me with dark hair. It’s weird to see myself with dark hair.”
He then revealed he went dark for an upcoming role, without disclosing the project. “It is what it is,” he added.
“I wasn’t going to tell you, I wasn’t going to share this at all. But I’ve been out twice the last couple of days, and people are very confused,” France continued. “So I just need to make it clear: This is not a midlife crisis.”
“I hate dark hair on me. I love my silver hair. I love my grays. I’m not ashamed of them whatsoever. I’m really proud of my grays,” he then insisted, before assuring fans he’d be going back to his “natural color” within the next month or two.
France ended the video by reiterating, “Don’t freak out.”
Netflix Fans and France’s Friends React
France’s friends and fans flocked to his comments to react to his new ‘do, clearly shocked to see him without his signature silver mane.
Among them was “Queer Eye” co-star Antoni Porowski, who wrote, “my brain is glitching so hard rn 🙃.” France responded, writing, “I know, Ant. Mine has been for days now😂”
Added Gigi Hadid, “Hahahahaha Tannyyyy this is u in a parallel universe 😆😆😆😆”
His “Deli Boys” costar Poorna Jagannathan added, “Omg ❤️❤️.”
Rahul Kohli, who has starred in a number of Mike Flanagan’s Netflix shows, also guessed about the mystery project, writing, “James Bond.” To that, Tan responded, “bahaha, that’s exactly the role it’s for. Correct 😂.”
France’s own husband, Rob France, also gave some insight into what he and their sons think about the change.
“At least it’s been a few days so the boys aren’t laughing anymore,” he wrote. “You look beautiful as always Mashallah. That being said, nothing beats your silver. ❤️❤️❤️”
Other followers, meanwhile, left comments including, “Where’s our Tan and what have you done with him! 😂😍,” “looks so good! You can pull either off!” and “Sorry who is this?”
Tan France’s Mystery Project
While he didn’t name the gig, France was recently cast in the upcoming Amazon MGM romcom “Clashing Through the Snow.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is in production now, with France playing a book agent in the movie.
The project also stars Christopher Briney, Michelle Randolph, Lukas Gage, Julia Fox, and Andrew Schulz, and, per THR, revolves around “two rival co-workers at a book publisher who are forced to travel cross country when bad weather grounds all available flights.”
