Netflix Announces Cast of Live-Action Adaptation of Classic Cartoon

Reports have seemingly confirmed the cast of the upcoming Netflix television adaptation of “Scooby-Doo“. According to Variety and a number of other outlets, the streaming giant has chosen the actors who will portray the Mystery Inc. gang for the new series based on the hit cartoon.

Actors Chosen for Live-Action ‘Scooby-Doo’ Series

Netflix originally announced that it had picked up a live-action adaptation of “Scooby-Doo” last year, with the series set to include eight episodes across its first season. It was then revealed that Mckenna Grace, who has previously starred in “Gifted” and “Scream 7,” will portray Daphne.

Now, though, it appears as if the rest of the Mystery Inc. gang have been chosen, replacing the likes of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Matthew Lillard who had previously played live-action versions of the animated characters.  According to the reports, Maxwell Jenkins will play the role of Fred Jones, while Tanner Hagen will be responsible for bringing the character of Shaggy to life. Abby Ryder Fortson rounds out the main cast in the role of Velma Dinkley.

Fortson is probably best known for her role in “Ant-Man” and its sequel, as well as the HBO Max series “The Pitt.” She has also had roles in “The Mindy Project” and “Tales From the Loop.” Hagen also starred in “The Pitt” and has appeared in “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.”

Meanwhile, Jenkins has been a regular collaborator with Netflix. He starred in three seasons of “Lost in Space” as well as The Wachowskis’ series “Sense8.” He’s also had roles in “Reacher,” “Dear Edward,” and “Joe Bell.”

Netflix’s ‘Scooby-Doo’ Acts as a Modern Reimagining of the Franchise

The official logline for the show gives an indication of what viewers can expect from the show, including the fact that it will act as a modern reboot of the franchise rather than a direct continuation of any previous entry.

It reads, “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.”

The logline continues, “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
