Icon Clint Eastwood’s Retirement Confirmed in Statement From Family Member

Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood has officially stepped away from filmmaking at the age of 96.

The legendary actor and directorโ€™s retirement was confirmed by his son, Kyle Eastwood, during a recent interview with France Info, per HELLO.

Reflecting on their years working together, Kyle shared, โ€œIโ€™ve been very lucky to be able to work with him on a lot of films. It was a great experience for me.โ€

He added, โ€œI have a lot of good memories of working with him. Now heโ€™s retired.โ€

Kyle, an accomplished jazz musician, collaborated with his father on several acclaimed films, contributing music to projects including โ€œMillion Dollar Baby,โ€ โ€œLetters from Iwo Jima,โ€ โ€œGran Torinoโ€ and โ€œInvictus.โ€

The announcement may come as a surprise to longtime fans, many of whom believed Eastwood would continue working indefinitely.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker recently celebrated his 96th birthday on May 31.

He leaves behind one of the most remarkable careers in Hollywood history, spanning more than six decades both in front of and behind the camera.

Eastwoodโ€™s Impressive Career

Eastwoodโ€™s retirement marks the end of a remarkable run in Hollywood that began more than 60 years ago.

The four-time Oscar winner first gained widespread recognition in the 1960s as Rowdy Yates on the television series โ€œRawhideโ€ before becoming an international star through director Sergio Leoneโ€™s acclaimed Dollars trilogy, which included โ€œThe Good, the Bad and the Ugly.โ€

After establishing himself as a leading man, Eastwood expanded his career behind the camera.

He made his directorial debut with โ€œPlay Misty for Meโ€ in 1971 and went on to become one of the most successful actor-directors in film history.

Over the following decades, he helmed a string of acclaimed projects, including โ€œUnforgiven,โ€ โ€œMillion Dollar Baby, Changeling,โ€ โ€œGran Torino,โ€ โ€œAmerican Sniperโ€ and โ€œThe Mule.โ€

Unlike many filmmakers who stick to a single style, Eastwood built a reputation for moving seamlessly between genres, directing everything from westerns and thrillers to romances, biopics, war dramas and musicals.

He was also known for his efficient filmmaking approach, frequently completing productions ahead of schedule and within budget.

His final film as a director was 2024โ€™s โ€œJuror #2,โ€ a courtroom drama starring Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, J.K. Simmons and Zoey Deutch.

Away from the screen, Eastwood is also a father of eight. His children are Laurie, Kimber, Alison, Kathryn, Francesca, Morgan, Kyle and Scott.
