Oprah Winfrey has joined the unending number of tributes celebrating Dolly Parton, as well as mourning her loss. The “Jolene” singer passed away today at the age of 80 following an undisclosed brief battle with cancer.
To commemorate Dolly, Oprah shared a throwback snap of them both together dressed up and penned alongside the photo why it’s her favorite memory of when they were together.
Oprah’s Fondest Memory With Dolly
Oprah shared a single snap to her Instagram profile, where she has over 22 million followers. The photo shows a younger version of her and Dolly dressed up in sparkly glam dresses with gorgeously big hair. The ladies beam at the camera while they hold one hand on their hip posing and wrap the other one around each other.
Dolly opted for a golden bodycon number which featured silver accent detailing. Meanwhile Oprah wore a black dress with gold detailing across the shoulders and down the arms.
In the post’s caption, Oprah didn’t share her heartbreak – she instead described the moment and how amazing Dolly was. It read: “One of my fondest memories with @dollyparton: Having a hoot and a holler while wearing Bob Mackie gowns on her show Dolly.
“This girl from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee dreamed a life and then lived a life bigger than she could have ever imagined, giving so generously to others in ways we saw and ways we didn’t.
“No one like her. She brought the light, and we are all better because she was here.
God bless you, Dolly—you earned your wings.”
Dolly’s Family Share The News of Her Passing
Dolly Parton’s family posted a video message to her social media profiles today announcing that she had passed away. Bryan Seaver read out the tragic news, speaking to a camera. He shared: “Hey everyone, my name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I am representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean.
“Sister, sis, aunt, granny to one generation, and Gigi to the next. This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now. It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, but not with Dolly.
“Dolly has lived in the light […] met by Carl, her parents, and countless others who have watched her and longed for her to meet them in the heavens. […] Dolly also opened doors for generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers from every walk of life , and across every continent. By her example, we believed that anything was possible.
“She never saw a door she couldn’t open, and the doors she opened made and changed history. My family and I have shared a lifetime of beautiful memories with Dolly, but so have you. She has always been on your television, your record player, your CD, and your phone playlist becoming an extended part of your family.”
