Hayden Panettiere’s Memoir Returns to No. 1 After Her Passing

Hayden Panettiere’s sudden passing has brought renewed attention to her 2026 memoir, “This Is Me: A Reckoning.” As a result, the memoir has returned to No. 1 on Amazon’s biographies chart.

Panettiere, who died Aug. 17 at age 36, grew up in front of the cameras. She appeared on “One Life to Live” and “Guiding Light.” Later, she became a household name through “Heroes” and “Nashville.” Behind her Hollywood success, however, she described years of intense pressure, addiction, domestic abuse, and personal loss.

Following news of her death, her memoir climbed back to the top of Amazon’s biographies chart.

Faced Pressure From an Early Age

Panettiere wrote about her complicated relationship with her mother, Lesley Vogel, who also managed her career.

As Panettiere’s fame grew, she said she increasingly felt like a commodity rather than an artist. She also described pressure surrounding her appearance, weight, and work ethic.

Despite becoming a major television star, Panettiere said the expectations surrounding her career took a toll behind the scenes.

Her memoir allowed her to reflect on those experiences and the challenges she faced while growing up in Hollywood.

Opened Up About Addiction and Motherhood

Panettiere also detailed her struggles with addiction and domestic abuse.

In 2014, she welcomed daughter Kaya with boxer Wladimir Klitschko. Soon afterward, she experienced severe postpartum depression.

During a May interview with “The View” while promoting her memoir, Panettiere discussed how difficult motherhood became during that period. She said she wanted to be a better mother to Kaya than her own mother had been to her. However, she struggled to get out of a depression that sometimes left her bedridden for days.

In 2018, Panettiere relinquished full custody of Kaya to Klitschko amid her struggles with addiction and postpartum depression.

“Not being with her under the same roof [as Kaya] has been the most gut-wrenching experience of my life,” she wrote in her memoir.

Reflected on Brother Jansen’s Death

Panettiere also wrote about the devastating loss of her younger brother, Jansen Panettiere, who died in 2023 at age 28.

In her memoir, she suggested that she had begun finding a way to process his death. In addition, she was trying to carry his memory with her.

“He would want me to remember that death and loss are part of life, but they allow rebirth if you let them,” she wrote.

Panettiere also compared herself to Dory from “Finding Nemo,” describing the character as a symbol of her own resilience.

“I’m like Dory, the resilient little fish in ‘Finding Nemo’ who just keeps swimming even when she comes face to face with a bunch of sharks,” she wrote. “Life can shake you up and tear you down, but even when you’re at your worst, there’s hope, and you have an opportunity to rebuild.”

The renewed interest in “This Is Me: A Reckoning” gives fans another opportunity to hear Panettiere tell her story in her own words. This happens following her death.
