The singer is now expected to be released Wednesday, September 2, according to sources familiar with his condition. The update comes one day after TMZ first reported that the Grammy winner checked himself into a local hospital following his Saturday, August 29, performance at The Muny in Forest Park.
Doctors initially were looking into possible mild dehydration, and Lionel had hoped to leave the hospital Tuesday. The St. Louis hospitalization marks another health concern for the singer during a busy year on the road.
The outlet has not reevaluated the specific diagnosis and has not disclosed the nature of the cardiac-related concerns.

Questions about Lionel’s health surfaced following his performance at The Muny. Video from the concert showed the “Hello” singer leaning on a piano for support at one point, CBS News reported on Tuesday.
Fans also said he asked for a chair during his final song, “All Night Long.” After finishing the concert, Lionel went to the hospital for testing.

NBC Philadelphia had reported earlier that during “Dancing on the Ceiling,” he sat down and told the audience he was feeling “dizzy” and “strange,”. The concert ended early, and subsequent shows in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, were postponed.
The singer later returned to the stage. During a July performance at Madison Square Garden, he also joked between songs about needing electrolytes.
Lionel has continued performing as part of his “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour with Earth, Wind & Fire.
Lionel Richie Still Has Tour Date Scheduled
As of Tuesday, Lionel’s upcoming San Francisco concert with Earth, Wind & Fire remains listed on the Chase Center calendar for Saturday, September 26.
The performance had previously been rescheduled and is set to begin at 7:30 p.m., according to the venue.
Lionel has spent decades as one of pop music’s most recognizable voices, first with the Commodores and later through solo hits including “Hello,” “Say You, Say Me” and “All Night Long.” He has won four Grammy Awards and has served as a judge on “American Idol” since 2018.
His representatives have not publicly shared details about his condition.
