Tucson, Arizona, is still waiting for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie to come home. More than 18 days have passed since Nancy, the beloved mother of “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was last seen. As the search intensifies and now stretches beyond U.S. borders, investigators are confronting new developments in a case that has gripped both her hometown and a national audience.
FBI Contacts Mexican Authorities Over Reported ‘Purchase’: What Does That Mean?
The search for Nancy Guthrie has expanded beyond U.S. borders as investigators continue to follow every possible lead.
Nearly four weeks after the 84-year-old mother of “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson home, federal officials confirmed they contacted authorities in Mexico about a reported “purchase” linked to the case.
GettyA Mexican security official told The New York Times that the FBI reached out to officials in Sonora, the state that borders Arizona, regarding the alleged transaction.
That lead, however, “has already been ruled out,” by the FBI, the official said.
Sources also told The Post that parts of the investigation have extended into Mexico, located roughly an hour south of Tucson.
The development followed a report by TMZ that it received a purported ransom note claiming Nancy was being held “south of the border.”
The FBI has not publicly confirmed that it is actively searching for Nancy within Mexico.
DNA Evidence Raises New Questions in Tucson Home
As the investigation widened, new forensic details added further layers to the case.
A black glove found about two miles from Nancy’s home did not match any profile in the federal DNA database. Additional DNA collected from inside the residence also failed to match in the system.
Blood spatter discovered on Nancy’s doorstep was confirmed to be hers. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
Nancy was last seen on January 31 after her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, dropped her off at home following dinner with him and her daughter, Annie. Cioni and all members of the Guthrie family have been cleared as potential suspects.
A Case Still Without Clear Answers
Despite international outreach and extensive forensic testing, investigators say they have not yet secured a decisive breakthrough.
The search now stretches beyond state lines and possibly beyond national borders. For Nancy’s family, every update carries a mix of hope and uncertainty. Nearly a month after her disappearance, the case remains active. And those who love her most continue to wait for answers.
