Fans were treated to a rare sighting of Shirley MacLaine over the weekend. The “Steel Magnolias” star was photographed during a relaxed lunch outing in Malibu, marking one of the infrequent moments the Hollywood legend has been seen out in public.
Oscar Winner Enjoys Lunch With Friends
The Oscar winner and star of “Terms of Endearment” stepped out for a rare public outing to dine at a beloved celebrity hotspot in Los Angeles. As Page Six reported, the iconic actress, 91, was seen linking arms with a male companion while leaving Nobu in Malibu, California, on January 18.
For the daytime outing, MacLaine was seen rocking a laid-back look. She was wearing a T-shirt and khaki pants.
Rare Public Outing for Shirley MacLaine
GettyMacLaine isn’t one to step out into the limelight too much anymore. Back in November, she was seen enjoying some time with friends at Kristy’s Village Cafe.
During that trip out, she was seen sipping on a bright orange cocktail. It was served in a stemless martini glass. She was seen sitting in a woven outdoor chair and smiling often. MacLaine was soaking up the pre-Thanksgiving energy around her.
Back in December, the “Steel Magnolias” star got all dressed up to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Dance Hall of Fame’s inaugural ceremony, as the New York Post reported.
In her speech, MacLaine said, “Getting an award for dancing is the most important acknowledgement I could have. I mean that. This is beautiful, by the way, heavy, and it’s beautiful. My mother took me to dancing class when I was 3 because I had weak ankles, and I fell in love with it.”
The Hollywood legend continued, “But here’s what it also included: discipline, love of music, a sense of cooperation with other people, being on time. And from that day on, I went to class every day until in my sixties. I would have to say that dance, what I’ve learned being part of it, is why I’m still here.”
Continuing Her Hollywood Career
Even as she has moved into her 90s, MacLaine has kept her Hollywood career moving along. In 2022, she appeared in two episodes of “Only Murders in the Building” with Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin.
She also starred in the Paul Dektor-directed movie “American Dreamer” with Peter Dinklage in 2022. MacLaine also released her memoir, “The Wall of Life,” in 2024.
