Sterling K. Brown Postpones Surgery to Support His Co-Stars

Sterling K. Brown isn’t letting an injury keep him from a night that matters. The actor, 49, revealed on Tuesday, September 9, that he tore his Achilles but is holding off on surgery until after the Emmys. For Brown, the chance to celebrate with his “Paradise” costars is worth the pain.

The “This Is Us” alum said he was being “athletic” when the injury struck. “After simply taking a step, it felt like somebody stomped on the back of my heel,” Brown recalled. At first, he thought someone had caused the pain and demanded an apology, only to learn no one was near him.

Laughing, Brown added, “The injuries where nobody touches you are usually, probably the most serious ones.”

Brown confirmed surgery is coming, but not until after the Emmys. “Gonna do it after the Emmys so I can motivate myself and go and try to celebrate with my cast and the producers of ‘Paradise’ because we got recognized,” he said.

He gave the update from his bed, where he was watching football and reading to “keep my spirits up.” Smiling, he joked that he usually wears athleisure because “if a game breaks out, Brown is ready. I got cleats in the back of the car.”

“Paradise” Earns Four Emmy Nominations

Brown stars as Agent Xavier Collins in “Paradise,” a political drama about a serene community thrown into chaos after a shocking murder. The series earned four Emmy nominations, including one for Brown for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, one for Nicholson for Supporting Actress, one for Marsden for Supporting Actor, and another for Outstanding Drama Series.
