Iconic Soap Star Shares Positive Health Update Years After Heart Procedures

All My Children” alum Susan Lucci has given a health update following severe heart issues that began back in 2018. The iconic soap star suffered extensive chest pains, leading to 90% blockage in her main coronary artery and 75% blockage in another one, leading her to have a stent put in.

In 2022, Lucci suffered the same symptoms and learned another artery was 75% blocked. Lucci had another stint put in that year. Four years later, she’s giving a new update on her health.

Susan Lucci Gives Health Update In Honor of American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month, and Lucci has become a major advocate for women’s heart health following her medical issues. In her case, Lucci inherited her heart issues from her father, but she admits that for years, while working on the hit ABC soap, she did eat like “a truck driver” thanks to the easy delivery of any food in New York City.

Speaking with Fox Digital News, to promote her new book La Lucci, the soap star revealed she follows a Mediterranean diet and does Pilates to benefit her heart because of her family history.

“It’s mostly fish and fresh vegetables. Yes, there’s an occasional pasta in the mix, but it’s just occasional, and that’s OK,” she expressed.

Pilates is actually a workout Lucci started in her 40s, and she wishes she had started it sooner. Lucci credited the workout for helping her change her eating habits long before she had the heart blockage.

“I started to have more awareness of my body from doing Pilates. And the mind awareness became very clear to me quickly. It has helped me handle stress and responsibilities,” Lucci spilled.

The change definitely helped with her hereditary heart issues, and that’s why Lucci remains determined to do what she can to keep her heart healthy despite the family history.

Lucci also steers clear of cheese, something she loves, to keep her cholesterol low, because high cholesterol can worsen heart disease.

‘All My Children’ Alum Susan Lucci Embraces Taking Care of Herself

The soap star continues to live her best life despite her health issue and the loss of her beloved husband Helmut Huber in 2022. Lucci doesn’t take a day for granted, which is why she takes care of herself and encourages other women to do the same.

“Always go to your annual checkups and have conversations with your doctor about how to be your healthiest. Speak to a dermatologist, too,” Lucci declared.

The “Devious Maids” alum also wants women to be aware of what they put in and on their bodies. Lucci’s all about sunscreen and skincare, but warns about the chemicals used in some products.

Working out, going to her doctor’s appointments, spending time with friends and family, and eating right are all the things Lucci does to maintain a physically and mentally healthy lifestyle. The actress hopes her story will help others do the same.
