Trista Sutter and Ryan Sutter are one of most successful couples to come from “The Bachelorette.” That’s why Trista has previously answered the biggest question she gets about her relationship: What is the secret to a successful marriage? She’s now followed that up with more helpful advice that she’s learned during her 21 years of marriage.
“Trust it goes without saying, but I’m just saying,” she wrote over photos of herself and her husband that she shared on Instagram.
“Leaning on each other during the tough times,” she also wrote. “Even if there’s no talking, there should always be the option to lean.”
Beyond that, she added, “Compromise. Marriage is giving when you’ve got enough and taking when you need more… and knowing when to give and when to take.”
Trista Has More Keys to a Successful Relationship

She offered one simple yet important idea, writing, “Laugh. A lot.”
“Give each other space to reset or get calm or gain understanding,” she also wrote. She then added, “Whenever it’s needed.”
“Compatibility,” she also noted as an important part of marriage, adding, “Especially when it comes to kissing 💋”
“Forgiveness” is another key to a lasting relationship, according to Trista. “The big things, the little things, and everything in between.”
Trista continued by saying that you need to “Communicate your love.” She gave an example, saying that she and Ryan “use post-its.” She explained that you should “find your method and use it. Often.”
“Don’t take life too seriously,” was her final piece of advice when it comes to enjoying a healthy marriage. She noted, “There’s enough stress in the everyday. Try not to add to it at home.”
