Queen Camilla gave a rare, heartfelt look into how King Charles is managing his health as he continues his public duties alongside ongoing cancer treatment. Speaking during a recent engagement, she shared a candid reflection on his progress and positive outlook.
Her comments were an update for royal watchers. Her personal perspective highlighted not just his resilience in balancing royal obligations with recovery, but also the steady support Camilla has provided every step of the way.
Queen Camilla called King Charles ‘Cancer Journey’ cancer journey ‘Quite Difficult’
In an interview with Dame Laura Lee, chief executive of UK cancer charity Maggie’s, Queen Camilla opened up about her husband’s health struggles. The interview was shared via Instagram.
The post read, “In a conversation with Dame Laura Lee DBE, CEO of Maggie’s, Her Majesty speaks for the first time about her emotional official visit to Maggie’s, days before The King’s cancer diagnosis was announced. If you, or someone you love, has received a cancer diagnosis, just come into your nearest Maggie’s centre to speak with an expert and receive free practical, emotional and psychological support.”
“I almost said something. But you know, I felt that it wasn’t the time to say,” Camilla began in the clip. “That was quite difficult.”
“I was just longing to let it out, but obviously I couldn’t,” the royal family member continued. “I didn’t want to pry too deeply.”
She continued, “But you know, normally when I went in, I was just talking to them. But I don’t know, I felt it was much more deep.”
“I looked at everyone who was suffering, and all the relations. I think it made me realize even more how important these places were,” Camilla added.
King Charles’ Health Today
GettyKing Charles has been living with cancer since it was detected in early 2024, during tests for an unrelated prostate procedure. Buckingham Palace has never named the specific type, only confirming it was caught early thanks to that initial screening.
The most notable recent news came in a rare televised message the King recorded. He shared that his treatment schedule would be scaled back going into 2026. Rolling Stone reported the monarch called it “both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care.”
“I know from my own experience that a cancer diagnosis can feel overwhelming,” he said. He added he was “profoundly moved by what I can only call the ‘community of care’ that surrounds every cancer patient.”
The monarch has been public about his diagnosis rather than hiding it. He is using his own experience to push a bigger public health message. In December 2025, in a video message to support Stand Up to Cancer, he pointed out that at least nine million people in the UK aren’t up to date on their cancer screenings, and urged people to get checked.
Currently, King Charles keeps a full schedule of appearances along with his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles. The couple is currently on their summer break at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Their next expected major public appearance together is on September 5, 2026, at the annual Braemar Gathering. The king is the patron of the Braemar Games.
