Adam Levine Dishes on His Past with His Famous Rock Star ‘Neighbor’

Adam Levine had a good reason for picking his famous rock star neighbor as his Battle Advisor for Season 29 of “The Voice.”

He and Benji Madden have known one another for decades. In a new clip, the pals dished on their bromance and what fans of the NBC series can expect as the next phase of competition begins.

Adam Levine Knew He Had to Have Benji Madden as His Battle Advisor

Adam Levine could have called on any number of his industry contacts and acquaintances to pair up with during “The Voice” battles round. However, he turned straight to a longtime friend and neighbor, Benji Madden, for assistance.

The two men clearly care about one another. They revealed their true feelings for each other in an Instagram reel.

“I love Benji so much,” Levine began. “He’s not just a member of Good Charlotte, but so savvy in the industry as well.”

The longtime “Voice” star added that Madden was “super handsome, super charming. He’s got great instincts; he’s a smart dude. He was also a coach on ‘The Voice: Australia’ with his brother Joel [in 2015].”

So when it came time to pick a Battle Advisor for Season 29, Levine turned to Madden. “They’re like, ‘Who are we gonna bring in?’ I’m like ‘Benji, obviously.'”

“He’s my neighbor. We carpool,” Levine revealed, showing just how close the men are, along with their wives, actress Cameron Diaz and model Behati Prinsloo.

In the NBC video clip, Benji Madden and Adam Levine admitted their friendship goes way back. If they met when Maroon 5 put out their first record, that would earmark their initial meeting around 2002, when the band released their first LP, “Songs About Jane.”

“We met at a festival. You guys had put out your first record,” Madden began.

“I loved it, and I was like, ‘I’m gonna go out of my way [to meet you],'” the Good Charlotte performer continued.

However, it appears that their friendship runs deeper than that. Madden let slip just how highly he regards their relationship. He told NBC’s cameras, “I may be the advisor today, but Adam is oftentimes my advisor.”

The clip ended with Benji Madden telling viewers that he is thrilled to be a part of this season of “The Voice.” He believes his lead singer, lyricist, and pal, has some “amazing talent” on his team.

Adam Levine is a coach on “The Voice” alongside John Legend and Kelly Clarkson. The series is hosted by Carson Daly.

“The Voice” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
