Miley Cyrus is no stranger to celebrity endorsements. The former coach of Seasons 11 and 13 on “The Voice” most recently promoted Gucci’s Flora Gorgeous Gardenia Intense Eau de Parfum and Dolce & Gabbana’s Eyewear. But for Cyrus to be tapped as the first-ever celebrity face of a brand is something altogether more special.
On August 28, Maison Margiela announced that Cyrus would be their first celebrity ambassador for its Fall 2025 Avant-Première Collection. Cyrus wears looks from the French label’s collection in some of the photos. The series of “painterly portraits” shot by Paolo Roversi, which look more artistic than most ads, is part of what makes the campaign truly unique.
Miley Cyrus Dons Maison Margiela’s Iconic White Overpaint in Bold Photoshoot
“The American artist is captured in a new light, stripped-back and immersed in the core codes and archetypal expressions of the maison,” Maison Margiela wrote in a press release (via Dazed). “Some images portray the artist in a state of undress, her body painted white in homage to the maison’s white-overpaint bianchetto technique introduced in 1989.”
Miley Cyrus wears clothes in several of the photos. In others, the actress is nude, covered in white paint. In one, the “Flowers” singer is wearing a long black coat, a white collar, Tabi Bianchetto Boots, and carrying a Maison Margiela 5AV Loved To Death purse. Another shot shows the singer wearing a short, belted jacket and carries a large purse. She holds the same purse in another photo, in which she’s wearing nothing but the white overpaint.
However, the most mesmerizing photo is reminiscent of Annie Leibovitz’s controversial photo taken for Vanity Fair when Cyrus was 15 years old.
Miley Cyrus and Maison Margiela: A Match Made in Fashion Heaven
Cyrus first began showing her love for the French fashion house in 2023, when she wore a variety of Maison Margiela outfits. It started with her “Used To Be Young” video. From the Mickey Mouse T-shirt to her Tabi heels, she’s wearing the label. As she did with the blue outfit and the latex underwear set she wore in posters to promote the song.
Cyrus also wore a custom-made Margiela dress to the 2024 Grammys, which was made from safety pins and antique beads.
Cyrus’s own words about the collaboration hint that this union was meant to be.
“Standing naked for a fashion campaign felt major, all I wore was body paint and the signature painted Tabi boots, “Cyrus said in a statement (via Fashionista). “In that moment, Margiela and I became one.”
