Jaclyn Smith Makes Rare Admission About Maintaining Her Looks at 80

Fans have long wondered about Jaclyn Smith’s cosmetic procedures and how she has maintained her youthful appearance at 80. However, the “Charlie’s Angels” star has revealed that she doesn’t do too much when it comes to maintaining her looks.

According to PEOPLE, in a new interview, the “Charlie’s Angels” alum let fans in on some of her beauty secrets, including the one cosmetic procedure she supports. This is a rare admission from Smith, who has long been a proponent of clean living.

If Smith’s declarations in the past are anything to go by, she avoids conventional cosmetic work. In a 2022 interview with The Mail on Sunday’s You Magazine, Smith explained her approach plainly, saying she doesn’t believe in fillers and hasn’t had any “cutting.”

“If I put anything in my face, I use my own fat, which is hard to do,” she said. The octogenarian has also said she avoids Botox because her husband, Dr. Brad Allen, a heart surgeon, repeatedly warned her that regular treatments can affect muscle function over time.

Smith has now elaborated on why she supports using her own fat. She told PEOPLE that she has “put some fat in my face,” adding that she considers it “a good thing to do, because you lose fat in your face.” Still, Smith believes cosmetic enhancements can go too far.

“Let’s face it, there are a lot of things out there you can do, but I don’t like it when people don’t look like themselves or they do too much,” she told PEOPLE. “Everybody ages, everybody changes. It’s the real stuff that puts you on top. Pretty is as pretty does. No one stays a ‘Charlie’s Angel’ forever.”

As for her approach to aging, Smith has never been totally hung up on procedures. Earlier this year, while attending an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of “Charlie’s Angels,” Fox News asked her what was really behind her age-defying look. She simply answered, “Clean living, being loved.”

Smith has credited her family with keeping her grounded and has put it at the center of how she feels about herself. In her latest interview, she also credited “clean living, eating properly, getting the proper amount of sleep and a lot of vitamins” for her youthful appearance.

After its premiere in 1976, “Charlie’s Angels” quickly became a sensation, turning Smith and her co-stars Kate Jackson and Farrah Fawcett into global stars nearly overnight. It has been 50 years since then, and the 50th anniversary celebrations have put Smith’s current appearance side by side with images of her from around the time the series premiered.

Smith was the only Angel to star in all five seasons of the show. Looking back at its unexpected success, she told PEOPLE that the original stars were simply “three girls hoping to find an audience, and boy, did we find an audience.”

Smith credits the show’s success to its then-novel premise of three women playing private detectives, its clothes and writing, as well as Fawcett’s famous hair, which she jokingly described as the “fourth Angel.” She also pointed to the genuine friendship between the women, saying, “After the applause, the friendship was still there. That sisterhood was strong.”

At 80, Smith is not claiming to have stopped aging. In fact, her latest comments suggest the opposite: She accepts that aging and physical changes are inevitable while drawing a clear line between subtle enhancements and doing so much that a person no longer looks like themselves.

More To Look Forward To

Smith is also opening up about her life and decades-long career in her new memoir, “I Once Knew a Guy Named Charlie.” According to Smith, fans have much to look forward to within its pages.

“People have often asked me to share behind-the-scenes stories, and in these pages, you will find plenty,” she told PEOPLE. “But there is another goal I had in writing this book. And that is to finally let others see the girl behind the image.”

The continued fascination with “Charlie’s Angels” is something Smith still experiences firsthand. She told PEOPLE that fans send her pictures from the show to autograph “every day,” even five decades after its debut.

“Who would have dreamed the afterlife of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ would be like this?” she said. If Smith remains as open in the memoir about the effort and acceptance behind her looks as she has been in recent interviews, her fans could walk away with more insight into her approach to aging gracefully.

  1. Yeah, Yeah. I use to say that the reason I look young (this was in my 40’s) was “clean living and exercising”. Well that definitely was a lie. Nobody looks that good without surgery. I had my face done in my early 40’s and loved the results. I’m 76 now and wherever I go they give me senior discounts. 😞
