John Stamos is paying tribute to the man who shaped his life. The “Full House” star shared a touching message on Instagram in honor of his late father William John Stamos’ birthday, describing him as his โheroโ and โbest friend.โ
โHappy heavenly birthday, Dad,โ Stamos began. โYou were my hero, my best friend, and the greatest example of what it means to be a man. Everything good I try to be started with youโthe way you treated people, the way you showed up, the way you loved Mom and our family without ever needing to say a word.โ
A Son Carrying His Fatherโs Legacy
Stamos reflected on how his fatherโs influence continues to shape his life and parenting. โEven though youโre gone, I still hear your voice guiding meโin my heart, in my hands, in how I try to be a father to my own son,โ he wrote.
GettyThe actor, who shares 6-year-old Billy with wife Caitlin McHugh, added, โEvery time Billy laughs, asks a question, or looks up at me for guidance, I feel you right there, reminding me what matters most: show up, be kind, work hard, love deeply.โ

A Bond That Time Couldnโt Break
Stamos has long been open about the special bond he shared with his parents. After his fatherโs passing in 1998, he also lost his mother, Loretta Stamos, in 2014. โThey taught me to be kind and to be generous and to be loving to everyone that you meet on this journey,โ he once said at the TV Land Icon Awards.
In 2018, Stamos posted another tribute, writing, โ17 years ago I lost my best friend. Dad, I appreciate you right now more than ever.โ
Now a father himself, Stamos says his son helps keep his parentsโ memory alive. โMiss you every day, Pop,โ he ended his tribute. โHope youโre smiling down today. Iโm still trying to make you proud.โ
