John Stamos Honors Late Dad in Heartbreaking Birthday Tribute: ‘I Still Hear Your Voice Guiding Me’

John Stamos is paying tribute to the man who shaped his life. The “Full House” star shared a touching message on Instagram in honor of his late father William John Stamos’ birthday, describing him as his โ€œheroโ€ and โ€œbest friend.โ€

โ€œHappy heavenly birthday, Dad,โ€ Stamos began. โ€œYou were my hero, my best friend, and the greatest example of what it means to be a man. Everything good I try to be started with youโ€”the way you treated people, the way you showed up, the way you loved Mom and our family without ever needing to say a word.โ€

A Son Carrying His Fatherโ€™s Legacy

Stamos reflected on how his fatherโ€™s influence continues to shape his life and parenting. โ€œEven though youโ€™re gone, I still hear your voice guiding meโ€”in my heart, in my hands, in how I try to be a father to my own son,โ€ he wrote.

The actor, who shares 6-year-old Billy with wife Caitlin McHugh, added, โ€œEvery time Billy laughs, asks a question, or looks up at me for guidance, I feel you right there, reminding me what matters most: show up, be kind, work hard, love deeply.โ€

Fans Send Stamos Love

Another comment read: “Happy Birthdayโค๏ธyou are his double!”

A third one chimed in and wrote: “he’s so proud of you, John โค๏ธ”

“He raised a great man!” wrote another fan.

Another admirer wrote: “What a lovely tribute. I understand the loss of parents. Never goes away. Thatโ€™s the song I recently sang as a tribute to my mom, whoโ€™s been gone 10 years. The songs have new meaning, itโ€™s why in my 50s I started singing. May your parents’ memory be for a blessing.”

A Bond That Time Couldnโ€™t Break

Stamos has long been open about the special bond he shared with his parents. After his fatherโ€™s passing in 1998, he also lost his mother, Loretta Stamos, in 2014. โ€œThey taught me to be kind and to be generous and to be loving to everyone that you meet on this journey,โ€ he once said at the TV Land Icon Awards.

In 2018, Stamos posted another tribute, writing, โ€œ17 years ago I lost my best friend. Dad, I appreciate you right now more than ever.โ€

Now a father himself, Stamos says his son helps keep his parentsโ€™ memory alive. โ€œMiss you every day, Pop,โ€ he ended his tribute. โ€œHope youโ€™re smiling down today. Iโ€™m still trying to make you proud.โ€
