Matthew Fox, who starred as Jack Shephard on ABC‘s hit drama “Lost” for its entire run from 2004 to 2010, spoke out to Variety about why he famously stepped away from the spotlight after the show’s major success. After wrapping the island survival series, Fox did not appear on another TV show until 2022, taking on a 5-episode arc on “Last Light.”.
At the premiere for the Paramount+ series “The Madison,” the 59-year-old explained, “I felt like it was time to engage really intensely with my family.” Fox shares a daughter and son, now in their 20s, with wife Margherita Ronchi, and he reflected, “I had missed some of their childhood because I was on set all the time with ‘Lost’ and doing films and promoting everything. It was the right moment for me to step back and take a moment and engage with the people that I love and care about the most in the world.”
He said he decided to return to the small screen because he missed storytelling. “This opportunity came along from Taylor and I was like, ‘Yeah I’m in.’ Now I have a balance.”
Matthew Fox Makes Acting Comeback In ‘The Madison’
Taylor Sheridan created The Madison for Paramount+. After years away from acting, Fox agreed to sign on for the role of Paul Clyburn, although only for one season.
The show is an offshoot of “Yellowstone.”
In a March 10 interview with ‘CBS Mornings,’ Fox discussed the project, saying, “I really enjoyed the initial conversations with Taylor. He laid out what he wanted the series to do, what kind of themes were in it. Then he started talking about the role that he was thinking about me for.”
Fox said he was “really attracted” to the character, as he has “a lot of personal passions in my life that are similar to the way that Paul is living his life.”
Fox recalled how he grew up in Northwestern Wyoming, in a part of the winter Valley that is very similar to the Madison River area.
He added that the chance to work with Kurt Russell, who plays Preston Clyburn, was another draw. “Kurt and I had done a film together in 2014. We really enjoyed working together, and this was another opportunity to do that but in this brothers dynamic, which I was very excited to do.”
Michelle Pfeiffer Is Also On the Cast
Michelle Pfeiffer shared a post promoting her involvement in the project on February 23. She plays Stacy Clyburn, the wife of Kurt Russell’s character.
