It’s been one week since Tim Curry, who is best known for starring in the hit film “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” tragically passed away at the age of 80.
And now, his official cause of death has been determined.
Based on documents obtained by PEOPLE from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Cury died from coronary artery disease. His history of stroke and kidney cancer was also listed as contributing conditions to his passing. The outlet further states that the documents say, “no operations were performed for either his coronary artery disease, kidney cancer, or history of stroke.”
Curry. passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Tim Curry Suffered A Stroke In 2012
Curry had been dealing with health issues for many years, stemming from a stroke he suffered in 2012, which he said brought him “way too close to death,” in a 2025 interview with the New York Times. Curry was receiving a massage when they noticed something was wrong.
“It’s a curious experience,” he shared. “I didn’t know it was happening at the time. They told me at the hospital and operated on my brain and removed, I think, two blood clots, which is a sort of grim picture. I found that very difficult to cope with as an image.”
As a result of the stroke, Curry was left paralyzed on his left side and was temporarily unable to talk. He was able to regain his ability to speak, but was confined to a wheelchair for the est of his life.
“I think my father had a stroke when he was 45 and died later from pneumonia,” he told the NYT. “And I kept remembering my mother talking about going to see him in hospital. He could only blink for yes and no. I dreaded that. I didn’t want that to happen to me. It was very peculiar not to be able to speak, and to find a voice again was difficult.”
He also addressed his health at the 50th anniversary “Rocky Horror Picture Show” screening in Los Angeles in Sept. 2025, saying to the auidence that he “still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair, and that’s very limiting.”
“I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon,” he added. “I still have real problems with my left leg.”
How Tim Curry Wants To Be Remembered
DisneyCurry revealed how he wanted to be remembered during a Wednesday, October 15, 2025, event celebrating the “Rocky Horror” music at the GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles.
“I don’t think I’ll be remembered for my dancing nor yet really my singing because not enough people have heard it and you know even CDs have a sell-by date. I think it’s this one because it’s unavoidable that it should be but I’m very, very proud of it. So if it is my legacy I’m very happy,” Curry said.
Curry starred as Dr. Frank-N-Furter and acknowledged that this specific role is “the one” that he will be best remembered for.
