Actor Tim Curry had been quietly helping to create a documentary about his life and career before his death at 80. Notably, some big Hollywood names have already agreed to take part in the film.
The “Rocky Horror Picture Show” star was collaborating with actress and producer Kathleen Robertson alongside filmmaker Peter Ferriero on the still-untitled project. Curry didn’t merely provide his blessing to the documentary but also contributed in a significant way. Robertson revealed they spent considerable time with him, listening to his stories and attempting to capture the man behind characters including Frank-N-Furter, Pennywise and Wadsworth.
Sadly, Curry never got to see the finished film following his tragic death earlier this week. He was 80 years old and had suffered with health problems for more than a decade following a stroke in 2012.
Tim Curry Was Personally Involved in Documentary About His Life
Robertson revealed the existence of the documentary while paying tribute to Curry on Instagram.
Robertson and Ferriero had been discussing the documentary since 2025. However, they initially weren’t certain how to approach the project. After meeting Curry, who had been examining his own life for the 2025 memoir “Vagabond,” they found a direction.
Calling Curry and “icon,” she revealed that she always knew how talented and influential he was. But it wasn’t until they spoke in person that she got a deeper appreciation for him as a person. She wrote, “And that was the gift.”
She added, “He is so [expletive] funny. So smart. So curious. Mischievous. Generous. Completely uninterested in being anything other than exactly who he is. There was something incredibly moving about being in his orbit. After everything the fame, the characters, the decades of people projecting so much onto him there was still just Tim. Sharp as hell. Watching everything. Missing nothing. Taste unparalleled.”
Robertson went on to say that she felt incredibly lucky to be trusted by Curry to create the documentary. She also said she was fortunate to “sit with him, listen to him, laugh with him, and capture even a little of who he really was.”
Describing the world as “less interesting without him in it,” Robertson concluded by expressing sorrow that Curry didn’t get to see the documentary.
“I’m sorry you weren’t able to see what we are making for you before leaving,” Robertson wrote. “We will make it our mission to make you proud.”
Ridley Scott & Carol Burnett Will Appear in Tim Curry’s Documentary
The list of people who are taking part in the documentary gives a good idea of how respected Curry was.
Ridley Scott, Carol Burnett, Christina Applegate, Alec Baldwin, Aaron Paul, and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan are all expected to participate. More participants are expected to be unveiled in the future.
“Basically, everybody we’ve reached out to has been like, ‘Yes. What? Where? Where do I go? Of course, I’ll do it!'” Robertson revealed to People.
It’s easy to understand the enthusiasm to take part in the documentary. Curry was a popular figure and his career crossed theater, film, television, music and voice acting. His most famous performances became embedded in popular culture, with “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” still proving successful today.
Curry recently revealed that “Muppet Treasure Island” was his favorite movie experience.
