David Archuleta’s Whispery Instagram Video Ends With a Very Funny Twist

While David Archuleta didn’t win the “American Idol” crown (that went to David Cook in Season 7), he has remained one of the franchise’s most beloved stars. Recently, Archuleta has embraced a more raw and playful era with his latest EP, “Earthly Delights,” and is now preparing to release his much-anticipated memoir, “Devout.”

And, how exactly is Archuleta preparing for his upcoming book release? By leaning into ASMR, the wildly popular trend is known for its soothing whispers and relaxing sounds. But in this case, the singer’s ASMR video comes with a hilarious twist.

David Archuleta Uses ASMR to Promote His Upcoming Book, & Fans Are Loving It

David Archuleta devised a clever and humorous way to encourage his fans to pre-order his upcoming memoir, “Devout.” Taking to Instagram, the singer shared a video of himself inside a recording booth, where he leaned into a soothing “ASMR for sleep and relaxation” bit.

“You are getting sleepy. Just take a breath in, and a breath out,” Archuleta begins whispering into the microphone. “You are now relaxing, relax all your mind, and words that are there just let them go, like you’re in an ocean, bouncing slowly in the waves. See the sunset changing colors. Hear a few birds chirping in the distance, just relaxing.”

While his voice was perfect for ASMR, Archuleta ultimately used the whispery moment to urge fans to pre-order “Devout,” joking that they would read it or listen to it on the audiobook he just finished recording. The clever promo had fans laughing.

“I can’t wait to hear more of that soothing wonderful voice of yours. Rather you are whispering, talking or singing I can’t get enough! Preordered book and Audio,” a fan wrote in the comment section.

“This was very effective! Your voice omg. Already preordered and ready to enjoy it 2/17! 🫶,” another shared.

“I’ve been saying this for YEARSSS, Archie’s voice is so soothing and perfect for asmr 🔥🔥,” a comment read.

Fans are eagerly awaiting Archuleta’s memoir, “Devout.” According to a press release (via People), the singer opens up like never before about his rise to fame on “American Idol,” coming out as queer, and ultimately leaving the Mormon Church.

The singer’s memoir will follow “Archuleta’s journey from closeted Mormon teen to global pop star to openly queer man, revealing the hidden pressures of fame, the weight of religious expectations and the courage it takes to live authentically.”

When he spoke to People in early 2025, Archuleta shared that the book will heavily touch on his 2021 coming-out story. “It’s about coming out of the closet, coming out of Mormonism, and trying to teach people why coming out is not just a choice,” he shared.

He added, “Because people from where I grew up thought, ‘Well, you made the choice to do that. Why would you do that?’ And it’s like, well, I tried everything not to be queer.”

While the book touches on some heavy moments in Archuleta’s life, he told the outlet that he was now in a “good place.”

“I feel like it’s an important message. Even if it’s some risky stuff to talk about, I think we need to talk about certain things. I’m ready to go on tour. I’m ready to talk about the topics, and if there’s anything that people don’t understand, I’m ready to combat that too,” he said.

“Devout” will be released on February 17.
