Following the passing of Dolly Parton on Tuesday, August 25, at the age of 80, many fans are surely spending some time listening to the music that she brought to the world over her lengthy and accomplished career. Paisley’s song featuring Parton, “When I Get Where I’m Going,” was the second single released from his 2005 album, “Time Well Wasted.”
In fact, along with winning two Academy of Country Music Awards — one for Video of the Year and another for Vocal Event of the Year — as well as a Country Music Association Award for Vocal Event of the Year, the song also climbed to the top of the Billboard Hot Country singles chart and reached No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100.
“I want to thank you and congratulate you for one of the greatest songs that I have ever heard and certainly one of the best songs that I’ve had the good fortune to sing on in my whole career,” Parton shared in a message to the song’s writers, George Teren and Rivers Rutherford. She also noted that she had heard “nothing but great comments” when it came to the single.
Beyond that, Parton went on to say, “I truly am as proud to have been a part of that [song] as anything I’ve ever done in my whole life.”
Paisley, who wanted to work with Parton in honor of his aunt who he lost to cancer and who adored the iconic singer, talked about the collaboration with the country music industry legend, calling her voice “angelic” and saying that it “takes [the song] to a more spiritual realm instantly…”
