Dolly Parton’s death last month led to an outpouring of tributes from fans, celebrities, and fellow musicians. The 80-year-old died on August 25, with many people subsequently sharing stories about the later singer.
One recent example of this came from People, with reporter Jeff Nelson looking back at his own article from last year. In what he describes as Parton’s final in-depth interview, the singer made a heartbreaking admission.
During the extensive interview, Parton revealed that she had become more emotional in her later life. She also went on to say that she found that she could “cry easier” than she previously did.
Dolly Parton Admitted She Cried More Easily in Recent Years
In this final in-depth interview, Parton spoke about her upbringing in Tennessee, her relentless work ethic, and how she has changed as she got older. Most notably, she revealed that she now finds that she cries more often than she ever did before.
The revelation came following a discussion about her late husband Carl. She has previously spoken about how difficult she found it to adjust to life without him by her side. As the cameras stopped filming, she began to cry and explained that talking about her partner had been emotional. Yet, she had held back the tears so the interview could continue. The moment acts as a reminder of how selfless Parton could be, putting others before herself.
“I’ve had to wear my heart on my sleeve for a long time now, and I cry easier than I used to. But it’s just leaving your life wide open for everybody to look right at you, right through you and right into you,” Dolly revealed when discussing her emotions. “I hope they see my heart.”
Dolly Parton Still Had Plans for the Future
Before her death, Parton also discussed her own declining health. She explained that the time she had spent looking after Carl had meant that she neglected her own health. None of that stopped her from working until the very end, though.
According to her long-time agent and manager Danny Nozell, the singer “worked up until the day she died.” That means Dolly was continuing to work while receiving treatment within the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Parton was admitted to hospital on August 21 after suffering from dehydration. This was four days before she ultimately passed away,
“She loved seeing her dreams come to life and loved knowing her work brought people joy. Ever the planner, Dolly worked with the team that she handpicked for the past several years to build a project roadmap that will guide us for decades to come,” Nozell’s statement went on.
Meanwhile, the music icon also made it clear before her death that she still had a number of things to achieve. Even in the run up to her death, Parton was eager to complete her unfinished projects, saying “I still have so many things I want to achieve.”
