Following the passing of Dolly Parton on Tuesday, August 25, at the age of 80, plenty of stars have shared tributes to the beloved country music legend. That includes Kristin Chenoweth, who took to social media to post a touching message about the icon who so many adored and who the Broadway singer shared a special connection.
Kristin Penned a Sweet Message to Dolly
“Like the rest of the world, I’m immediately heartbroken,” Chenoweth wrote in the caption of an Instagram post that she shared shortly after the public learned that Parton had passed away. Along with a collection of photos that showed the two women together, Chenoweth noted in her message that she met the country music star multiple times over the years. She also mentioned, “[S]he always made me feel like one of her own.”
Going on to say that Parton “even agreed to sing” with Chenoweth on one of the younger performer’s albums, she continued by calling Parton her “ultimate inspiration,” telling her followers, “The world has lost one of the best but I know we will never forget her because she is impossible to forget. I love you Dolly and I will ALWAYS love you. 💔🌈🦋”
Chenoweth’s fans and followers were obviously moved by the message, with one person leaving a comment, saying, “Thinking of you Kristin ❤️ Dolly will be forever loved and missed. I’m certain she’s so proud of you. Sending lots of love and hugs to you 🥺🤍🕊️🫶”
“I’m so sorry for your loss Kristin. She is and always will be a legend, of music and love.❤️❤️🕊️🕊️,” another person added.
“When I heard the news, my thoughts turned to you,” someone else wrote. “I know how much you loved and admired her. Dolly was an amazing woman and will never be forgotten.”
Kristin & Dolly Collaborated on a Cover of ‘I Will Always Love You’
Kristin’s message held an extra special meaning that anyone who is familiar with her work may have noticed. As we mentioned above, the last line of her Instagram message to Parton said, “I will ALWAYS love you.”
This could very well be a reference to the song that the duo performed together. Indeed, back in 2019, Chenoweth released a version of Parton’s classic hit, “I Will Always Love You,” as the lead single of her “For the Girls” studio album.
While that would have been enough to delight her fans, what made the cover even more exciting was the fact that Parton could also be heard in the tune.
The song was written and originally recorded by Parton in 1973 and found fame again thanks to the fact that Whitney Houston performed a stunning rendition of the ballad for the 1992 film “The Bodyguard,” which she also starred in along with Kevin Costner.
Proving what an incredible songwriter Parton was, the hit not only enjoyed a major resurgence due to its use in “The Bodyguard” and various other renditions, but according to Page Six, it was also famously written on the same afternoon in 1973 that the singer wrote another one of her most beloved and enduring tunes, “Jolene.”
