Like many other stars and fans of Dolly Parton, fellow singer Sheryl Crow has shared a heartfelt tribute to the country music legend following her passing on Tuesday, August 25, at the age of 80. In a social media post dedicated to the entertainment industry legend, Crow expressed a sentiment that many of Parton’s fans are feeling at the moment.
Sheryl Loved Dolly ‘Like Family’ as Did Many Fans
The loss of Parton is being felt by the star’s countless fans across the country and beyond, and that includes Crow. That’s why the singer took to Instagram not long after news broke that Parton had passed to share a special message about the beloved icon.
“There is a hole in the universe. There was and will never be anyone like Dolly,” Crow wrote in the caption of her post. Then, echoing the relationship many fans had with Parton, the former “The Voice” mentor added, “I did not know her well but I loved her like family… we all did.”
Indeed, although only a fraction of Parton’s fans ever got the chance to know her, meet her, or see her perform, many felt like she was an adored relative — like a sister or an aunt, who just so happened to be one of the most famous country music stars to ever grace the stage.
“She was an incredible story teller musically and in real life,” Crow continued. She then added, “But she was also a loving and compassionate human being, led by goodness in all she did. I will miss knowing she is on the planet but she will never be far away. RIP Dolly, we love you.”
Crow’s fans appreciated her post, with one person leaving a comment, saying, “I loved Dolly so much. She was always so sweet and so talented even at 80. I’ll miss seeing her on television promoting new projects. I’m glad you got to sing with her @sherylcrow…”
Sheryl Can Be Heard On Dolly’s ‘You’re No Good’
Although Crow noted that she didn’t know Parton very well, the two singers did connect from time to time thanks to their shared profession. For instance, the two teamed up with Emmylou Harris on the song “You’re No Good” for Parton’s 2023 album, “Rockstar.”
On top of that, Parton and Crow took the stage together more than once, including during a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame event that was held on November 5, 2022. The pair being joined by other stars like Pink, Annie Lennox and Brandi Carlile to deliver a stunning rendition of “Jolene.”
Then, in August 2025, Parton and Crow both appeared at the Stand Up to Cancer Benefit in Nashville, which saw Crow hosting the event and Parton performing, according to Billboard.
That’s not to mention the fact that Crow is also known to cover Parton’s songs during her concerts and while performing with other stars, such as taking on “9 to 5” in 2023 with the Zac Brown Band at the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
