World Renowned Astronaut’s Wife Passes Away – Our Hearts Go Out to Their Family

Buzz Aldrin’s wife, Anca Faur, tragically passed away “peacefully” during the night of Tuesday, Oct. 28, at the age of 66. She was surrounded by love, with “her husband and her son, Vlad Ghenciu by her side,” according to a statement shared on Facebook by the Faur and Aldrin families.

“Dr. Anca Aldrin, wife of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, peacefully passed away last night with her husband and her son, Vlad Ghenciu by her side. Mrs. Aldrin, an accomplished chemical engineer with a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, served as the treasurer for the California Hydrogen Business Council and as Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC,” the statement said. “Her family requests privacy in their time of mourning.”

Buzz Aldrin Calls Anca Faur the ‘Love of my Life’

In the statement shared on Facebook, Aldrin added a sweet tribute.

“I am so fortunate to have found and married the love of my life,” he wrote. “She brought joy to everything we did together. I will miss her dearly.”

Aldrin and Faur met in December 2017 and began dating May 2018. The two were married on Jan. 20, 2023, which also happened to be the astronaut 93rd birthday.

“It was a beautiful day,” Buzz told PEOPLE in a past interview. “We had decided on a private ceremony, as suitably intimate, just us and the stars in the sky.”

And he also highlighted just how much he loves Faur in that interview.

“There is something special about her and the way we connect so well,” he said. “She is the love of my life and we do everything together, from eating meals, planning projects and watching the world go by, to meeting with our two families and celebrating — as we are at this 55th anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing.”

Faur is Aldrin’s fourth wife, with the astronaut having married Joan Archer in 1954, and the couple shares three children. He then married his second wife, Beverly Van Zile, in 1975, followed by his third wife, Lois Driggs Cannon, with whom he was together for 24 years before they divorced.
