It’s officially ‘Wicked’ Night on “Dancing with the Stars,” and let’s be real; fans can’t wait to see how this routine plays out. Elaine Hendrix and pro-partner, Alan Bersten, are stepping into tonight with a Contemporary routine to the powerhouse anthem “Defying Gravity.” And let’s be real, if anyone can deliver the drama this song deserves, it’s Elaine.
Between Elaine’s commanding stage presence and Alan’s emotionally charged choreography, this one’s shaping up to be a showstopper. Viewers have been waiting all week to see how this duo brings the magic and meaning of “Wicked” to life. And something tells us they’re about to soar (literally and figuratively).
WARNING: This post was updated LIVE as the October 21, 2025 episode aired and contains spoilers for Week 6 of “Dancing with the Stars.”
Why This Could Be Their Moment
“Defying Gravity” isn’t just a song; it’s a declaration. It’s big. It’s emotional. It’s theatrical. And it’s tailor-made for a contemporary piece that asks the dancer to not just move, but to connect. Elaine has shown she’s eager and game; Alan brings the seasoned pro energy that can both challenge and elevate her. Together, they have an opportunity to make a statement.
On top of that, the “Wicked” theme offers an extra layer of storytelling. If Elaine channels that inner transformation, that sense of breaking free, she won’t just be dancing the steps… she’ll be embodying the essence of the song. And if Alan’s choreography helps her rise to that level, this could be one of their most memorable performances yet.
And with guest judge, Jon M. Chu, the “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good” director, sitting in this week it seems this routine had a little extra oompf. He’s someone who really gets the emotional aspects of the story these dancers are trying to tell. And it was obvious Elaine and Alan wanted to do the “Oz” legacy justice.
And The Scores Are In…
- Bruno Tonioli: 9/10
- Derek Hough: 9/10
- Carrie Ann Inaba: 9/10
- Jon M. Chu: 9/10
The judges gave Scott and Rylee a 36/40 for this week, and their reactions showed how proud they were of the routine. Added to their 30/40 from last week, Scott and Rylee are sitting at a two-night total of 66/80.
Whether or not they make it to the finals, Elaine Hendrix has proved she’s got more than screen-presence. She’s got heart, the willingness to work, and a spark that can light up the dance floor. Alan Bersten has long been one of the “go-to” pros. And this week it looks like he’s bringing his A-game to make this a team moment.
Closing Out an Epic Night
UPDATE: Elaine Hendrix & Alan Bersten are SAFE!
