“Dancing With the Stars” professional dancers and married couple Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy are currently on the road for the DWTS Tour, and they’ve brought their 3-year-old son, Rome, for the experience.
On Instagram, Johnson has been giving fans a glimpse of life on tour, sharing in a February post that their son is having just as much fun, watching his parents perform on stage, snacking on the tour bus, and cuddling with dad when the show’s over. Despite the family having a blast, Johnson opened up to Swooon recently, admitting why she was initially “super nervous” to have Rome come on tour.
Jenna Johnson Opens up About What Tour Life is Like With Son Rome
GettyIn a recent interview with Swooon, Jenna Johnson shared that it has been “so fun” and an “incredible experience” to have her and her husband, Val Chmerkovskiy’s young son, Rome, on the DWTS tour. However, she revealed that taking her son on the road across the U.S. made her initially “super nervous.”
“He is in school, he is absorbing so much right now, and I was just so nervous about taking him out of that routine,” she admitted. “But it has been so beautiful to see all of our castmates act as aunts and uncles to him.”
Rome has gotten super adjusted to tour life, with Johnson saying, “He loves watching the load in and load out with all the trucks and forklifts and everything. It’s been such an incredible experience. I think for all the nerves I felt leading up to it, I feel so overwhelmed with gratitude that we decided to take the risk and take him on this journey with us. I know that these are memories that will last forever for us as a family.”
Johnson added that Rome “knows everybody’s name” and watches his parents and the DWTS cast perform “every single night.” Seeing Rome watching her and Val is meaningful to Johnson, as it allows him to witness their passion firsthand.
“Like, this is what mommy and daddy do and they really love it and they’re chasing their dreams and following their passions. This is what it looks like. This is what sacrifice and hard work looks like. So it’s really incredible,” she said.
Johnson & Val Chmerkovskiy Recently Celebrated Rome’s 3rd Birthday
Johnson and Chmerkovskiy recently celebrated Rome’s third birthday on January 11. To honor their son’s big day, Johnson shared a sweet tribute featuring photos of Rome from birth to now, including shots of the family celebrating at home and Rome sitting next to his parents’ covered mirrorball trophies.
“My beautiful boy. You have healed me, changed me, fulfilled me, and brought me such incredible purpose. Thank you for choosing me as your mama! Thank you for holding my heart in your tiny precious hands and making me feel like the most loved human. I adore you. Cannot believe we are celebrating your 3rd birthday today! I love you with every fiber of my being!” Johnson captioned her post.
Johnson Reveals Whether She Wants to Expand Her Family
GettyIn her conversation with Swooon, Johnson also shared that she hopes to expand her family in the future, expressing interest in having another child when addressing her career on DWTS.
“I would hope to be part of the show as long as they’ll have me. I think I’m going to be one of the ones where they’re like, ‘Are you sure you want to do another season?’ But there are [other] things I want to do, too. Eventually, I do want to have another child,” she said.
The DWTS tour will end in May, with its final stop in Salt Lake City, Utah, on May 2.
