‘Abbott Elementary’ Star Reveals They Turned Down ‘Dancing With the Stars’ for Understandable Reason

Abbott Elementary” continues to be one of ABC’s most popular shows. The show recently received the greenlight for a sixth season, delighting both the cast and fans everywhere.

As the “Abbott Elementary” stars continue to rise in popularity, they’re receiving invitations to appear on other shows. Naturally, “Dancing With the Stars,” also owned by ABC, wants to get the stars to compete.

Unfortunately for fans, one cast member has already turned down an invitation. See what they had to say.

“Dancing With the Stars” Films at the Same Time as “Abbott Elementary”

“The Parent Trap” actress Elaine Hendrix impressed viewers during her run on “Dancing With the Stars” season 34. Although she didn’t win the Mirrorball Trophy, she proudly made it to the finale and rediscovered her love for dance.

Elaine’s best friend, “Abbott Elementary” star Lisa Ann Walter, even joined her on stage for one performance. In the aftermath, many “DWTS” fans called for ABC to invite Lisa to compete.

According to the actress, she already received an invitation. However, fans shouldn’t expect to see Lisa Ann Walter in the ballroom anytime soon. She cited her busy fall schedule as the primary reason.

“I have been asked numerous times, and I am in an incredible position right now, in a very dicey industry, where I’m on a hit show. And so, they happen to film at the same time,” the 62-year-old told PEOPLE in a recent interview. “Even doing one episode with Elaine was so time-consuming that I don’t know how I could do it if the seasons run the same.”

Walter noted that if they brought a spring season back to “Dancing With the Stars,” she would certainly reconsider her decision.

Fans Adored Lisa Ann Walter & Elaine Hendrix’s Close Friendship

Though their characters were bitter enemies in “The Parent Trap,” Lisa Ann Walter and Elaine Hendrix couldn’t be closer. Fans frequently spotted Lisa each week in the audience, cheering on her friend.

In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Elaine used heartfelt words to describe their relationship.

“Lisa is my life security blanket,” the 55-year-old shared during “DWTS” season 34. “And I look at her and I instantly feel calm.”

“She just knows,” Elaine went on to say. “We know what to say to each other because we know each other so well. So when I start to get on the edge, she knows how to bring me back and how to calm me down. And so, having her here means everything to me.”

New episodes of “Abbott Elementary” air on ABC at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights. “Dancing With the Stars” will likely return to ABC this September.
