Mark Ballas Forced to Stop ‘Chicago’ Performance Mid-Show Amid Ongoing Illness

Mark Ballas is opening up after a difficult moment onstage that left him unable to continue performing.

The “Chicago” star was forced to stop mid-performance on Monday, April 20 after his voice gave out during the first act.

In a candid message shared with fans, Ballas explained what happened and expressed his disappointment.

“I unfortunately couldn’t make it through the first act. I tried my best but I am still recovering and probably should have waited as am not fully healed & my voice totally went out on me half way through the first song,” he wrote. “I apologize profusely to all that came out to see me & this wonderful cast. I am devastated.”

The incident comes after several days of health struggles that have kept Ballas off the stage.

Ballas Has Been Sharing His Health Updates With Fans

The former “Dancing With the Stars” pro has been updating fans about an illness that has impacted not just him, but his entire household.

Just a day earlier, he shared that he would also be unable to perform, asking for understanding as he worked to recover.

“Sorry, I will not be able to perform again tonight. This illness has hit me and my whole household very hard. I have been doing everything I can to get back,” he wrote. “Please have grace with some of your aggressive DMs. It’s not like I’m doing this on purpose or can prevent what is happening.”

He added that the situation has been especially tough on a personal level, noting that loved ones had traveled a long distance to support him.

“I even have family that has flown in from England that won’t be able to see me perform now. This is a massive disappointment for me & again I can’t apologize enough. Thank you for understanding,” he added.

Ballas Revealed His Illness Days Prior

Ballas first revealed he was unwell a few days prior, explaining that doctors advised him to sit out performances while he recovered from a viral illness.

“It hurts my heart to write this, but yesterday I woke up unwell and have been hit with a viral illness,” he shared. “I am trying to rest to be able to get back on my feet as soon as possible… I apologize to all those who were coming to see me tonight, but this is unfortunately out of my hands.”

Despite the setback, Ballas made it clear he’s been doing everything he can to return safely, even attempting to push through before realizing he needed more time to heal.

For now, fans are rallying around him with messages of support as he focuses on recovery.
