Mira Sorvino Teases New Details About ‘Romy and Michele’ Sequel

Oscar-winning actor Mira Sorvino is dishing on the long-awaited sequel to her 1997 hit film “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.” The “DWTS” alum shared details about the upcoming movie’s plot and when filming is set to begin.

“The plan is right now to shoot it late spring,” Sorvino shared with Us Weekly. “The script is great. Robin Schiff, the original writer, wrote the sequel, and Lisa [Kudrow] and I have had a lot of input in it.”

“Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion” told the story of two best friends, played by Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow, who try to impress their old classmates at their 10th high school reunion. According to Sorvino, the sequel will give fans an update on what the characters are doing in the present day.

“It’s not like us just visiting and other people being [in] it,” she shared. “Romy and Michele again, and we’re seeing what they’re up to nowadays, and the whole gang is back.”


Mira Sorvino & Lisa Kudrow Will Produce the Film

In January of 2025 it was announced by The Hollywood Reporter that the sequel to the 1997 cult classic was in the works, with Sorvino and Kudrow serving as executive producers. Sorvino will reprise he role as Romy White and Kudrow will step into character again as Michele Weinberger.

Sorvino reposted the article on her Instagram page, with the caption, “We’re pretty excited about it.” Other members of the original cast seem excited as well, including “Traitors” host Alan Cumming who played Michele’s crush Sandy Frink in the original.

The actor shared he will also be joining the cast for the sequel, and told People, “Obviously everyone’s still in each other’s lives,” adding, “But it may be in a different way … It’s nice to think of those characters still being old friends.”


Sorvino Has a Lot Going on in Her Career These Days

Sorvino also revealed to Us Weekly that the “Romy and Michele” sequel will feature another iconic dance routine, as did the original. Sorvino is a trained dancer, and she showed off her moves on “Dancing With the Stars” season 32.

While Sorvino didn’t take home the Mirrorball Trophy, her dancing days were not over. The multitalented performer is currently making her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in “Chicago.”

“This is sort of the second act of my life, getting to actually be on the stage and live out this dream in this fantastic leading role,” she shared with People.
