DWTS Fans React After Derek Hough’s 1-Word Response to Tom Bergeron

Former “Dancing With the Stars” host Tom Bergeron may have left the ballroom years ago, but he’s still finding ways to delight fans. A recent Instagram post from Bergeron, which was complete with some funny hosting advice, drew a wave of nostalgia from viewers and even a one-word shoutout from current judge Derek Hough that had fans buzzing.

Hilarious Hosting Advice From Tom Bergeron

As season 34 of “DWTS” is set to premiere next week, it looks like the former host was trying to share some hosting advice ahead of the upcoming season. Hough, who currently judges alongside Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli on the dance competition series, was quick to respond to the hilarious post.

In the photo shared by Bergeron, he can be seen lying on a sofa in an office. Lying on top of the former “Dancing With the Stars” host are the notecards hosts carry during the live show.

Bergeron captioned the photo, “Best wishes to the @dancingwiththestars gang for the milestone season premiere next week. Here’s a tip from my years hosting: pre-show office naps help conserve energy. 😏”

Hough, who worked together with Bergeron for 17 seasons, had a one-word response that got fans riled up: “Legend 🔥,” which already has over 100 likes from fans.

Fans Share Love For Bergeron

Fans were loving the throwback photo from Bergeron and were quick to jump into the comments to share their love.

One person wrote, “As much as I love the show, it will never be the same without you!!,” while another added, “Tom Bergeron is a TV legend. One of the greatest of all time!”

One more follower wrote, “We love and miss you hosting! YOU are dancing with the stars! ❤️🙌” Another user said, “Tom! I haven’t watched since you left! You are missed ❤️.”

What Is Tom Bergeron Up to Now?

After 28 seasons of hosting “Dancing With the Stars,” Bergeron has found a way back into the ballroom, somewhat. He recently hosted a spoof of his role on “DWTS” for Discovery’s Shark Week 2025.

The show was called “Dancing With the Sharks,” and it featured expert divers and their real-life shark partners performing underwater dances.

How has he been able to make it such a long career in the entertainment business? He told Entertainment Tonight it was “good fortune.” He added that it was “jumping from one TV show lily pad to the next.”

Bergeron doesn’t feel there is a certain “recipe” for success. He found connecting with “one person” when looking into the camera helped him to bond with the audience. He said, “If you can maintain that illusion of intimacy, that helps.”

The former ”Dancing with the Stars” host will also be co-starring in an upcoming holiday drama, titled “Family Tree,” alongside his longtime friend, William Shatner.

“Dancing With the Stars” season 34 premieres on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesday, September 16, at 8 p.m. ET, with new episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.
