Tom Bergeron saw many highs and lows during his 15 years as host of “Dancing with the Stars,” but there’s one “scary” moment he can’t get out of his head.
The beloved TV host recently answered fans on Instagram after he posted a throwback of his days as host of the ABC celebrity ballroom competition.
After a fan asked him if “Marie Osmond fainting” was “the scariest moment out of all the years,” Bergeron shared an epic response.
“No. Watching @masterp “dance” was scarier (sorry, P),” the former DWTS host joked.
During Season 2, rapper Master P was brought in as a last-minute replacement for his son, Romeo, who suffered an injury and had to drop out of the DWTS season. Master P famously phoned it in during rehearsals and scored a lowly 8 out of 30 points for a paso doble with pro partner Ashly DelGrosso in Week 4. (Yeah, they went home that week.)
Marie Osmond Had a Scary Moment on DWTS That Fans Will Never Forget
GettyWhile Master P’s dancing was more foot stomping than foxtrot, there were definitely scarier moments on DWTS. In 2007, contestant Marie Osmond fainted onstage during the live broadcast.
Osmond and her partner, Jonathan Roberts, were listening to comments from the judges following their samba, and Osmond became wobbly and fell to the floor.
Bergeron quickly cut to a commercial, and when the show came back, Osmond was up and alert. “Once in a while, that happens to me when I get winded. I stop breathing,” she explained on-air before apologizing for the disruption. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. Guess he’s right, I am Sleeping Beauty,” she added.
Tom Bergeron Praised Taylor Swift for How She Handled a Fake Scary Moment He Came Up With
Photo by Kate Green/Getty ImagesBergeon later piggybacked Osmon’s fainting spell for his own scary moment—with the help of Taylor Swift. When Swift appeared as a musical guest on DWTS, Bergeron “fainted” on-air after asking her to read the teleprompter and cut to commercial.
“We were just coming out of a ‘Highlights’ package which ended, if I recall correctly, with the Marie Osmond fainting clip,” Bergeron commented on Instagram. “Impulsively, I asked Taylor if she could read the prompter and toss to a commercial because I had an idea. Don’t even think I told her I was going to do the Osmond swoon 🤣. She handled it like we’d rehearsed it.”
Bergeron previously spoke about Swift’s last-minute save during an appearance on Cheryl Burke’s “Sex, Lies and Spray Tans” podcast.
“It was a bit because they were doing a package that … ended with Marie Osmond fainting and everything,” Bergeron recalled. “So I turned to Taylor, I said ‘I’m gonna do something, are you OK reading prompter?’ And she said ‘Yeah,’ she was fine. … I didn’t tell anybody that I was gonna do it. So it came back to me, and I just pretended to faint, and Taylor took us to break brilliantly, no surprise.”
“She did a great job just taking a curveball like that,” he added, “Because I just sprung it on her, like, seconds before we were coming back to air, it just occurred to me it would be funny if I faint too.”
