Gal Gadot Shares Hilarious Story About Finding Out the Fate of Her ‘Fast & Furious’ Character

Gal Gadot might be best known for her work in the DC Extended Universe films “Wonder Woman,” “Justice League,” and “Wonder Woman 1984,” where she starred as, you guessed it… Wonder Woman. But her career spans much more than the superhero franchise. She has more than 35 acting credits, not including her upcoming projects.

Recently, Gadot sat down with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman for their “Armchair Expert” podcast to promote her new movie, “The Runner.” But she also had plenty to say about another major franchise she has been a part of: “Fast & Furious.”

Gadot portrayed Gisele Yashar beginning with “Fast Five” in 2011, before returning for “Fast & Furious 6” in 2013. Unfortunately, that movie appeared to mark the end of Gisele’s story when she fell from a cargo plane and was presumed dead.

Well, we all know now that wasn’t exactly the end of the story. And when Gadot recalled how she originally found out that Gisele was going to die, she revealed a pretty hilarious misunderstanding.

Gal Gadot Thought Justin Lin Said Gisele Was ‘Deaf’

During the podcast episode, Gadot explained that director Justin Lin called her one day. Why? To let her know what was coming up next for Gisele.

Justin Lin called me one day, and he’s like, ‘Listen, I’m going to send you the script. On this one, we’re going to have to deal with your death.’ And I’m like, ‘She’s deaf?’ He’s like, ‘No, no.’ Death, death. I’m like, ‘Yeah, I hear you, she lost it.’ I can learn sign language. ‘Die, die, you’re going to die.’ You’re dead.

Let’s be real, Gadot thinking Lin was telling her that Gisele was going to be deaf instead of dead is such an unexpectedly funny way to hear that your character is being killed off.

And while Gadot was obviously disappointed by Gisele’s fate, she also made it clear that there was more to losing the character than simply not having another role in the franchise.

Fast and Furious is crazy. It’s like a community. It’s like a community. All the cast are huge, there’s so many of us… I was sad not to be part of this community anymore.

Honestly, it makes sense that Gadot would feel that way. The “Fast & Furious” movies have become known for their huge ensemble casts and the relationships between the characters. So leaving that world behind was clearly difficult for her.

But, as fans would eventually learn, Gisele wasn’t actually gone for good.

Gadot’s Character Eventually Made a Surprising Return

Gadot later filmed a flashback scene for “Furious 7” in 2015 that revealed Gisele was the person who saved Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) following her car crash in 2009’s “Fast & Furious.” That scene was ultimately deleted from the final version of the movie. Meaning fans never got to see that part of Gisele and Letty’s history on screen.

Then, years later, the franchise pulled off one of its biggest surprises yet.

Gisele appeared during the end credits of “Fast X” in 2023. Gadot wasn’t credited for the appearance. But the brief scene showed that Gisele was alive, confirming the suspicions of plenty of fans who had never quite accepted that her story was over.

Yep, after all those years, Gisele was back.

And now, Gadot is officially getting another chance to be part of the “Fast & Furious” community.

She is currently filming as Gisele again for “Fast Forever,” which is expected to serve as the epic conclusion to the franchise. According to Vin Diesel, who teased the movie back in July, it is expected to arrive in 2028.

It seems like Gisele’s story has come full circle. In a way that probably wasn’t even possible when Gadot first learned about her character’s “death.”

And honestly, after hearing Gadot talk about how much she missed being part of the franchise, it’s pretty great that she gets to return for one more movie.

What’s Next for Gal Gadot?

Outside of “Fast Forever,” Gadot has several other projects in the works. According to IMDb, she has “Ruin,” “Irena Sendler,” “Cleopatra,” and “Bitcoin” in various stages of production.

But before any of those movies arrive, fans can see Gadot in “The Runner” (seen above). It hits theaters Wednesday, September 2, 2026. The movie follows Gadot as Maia, “a high-powered attorney [who] must race through London to save her abducted son while following cryptic commands from a mysterious caller,” per IMDb.

So, yep, Gadot has a lot going on right now. And while it seems like Gisele’s story should have ended back in “Fast & Furious 6.” Now fans are getting one more chance to see her in action when “Fast Forever” arrives.

Not bad for a character whose “death” started with one very memorable misunderstanding.
