Hailey Bieber is the latest celebrity to rock the breastplate trend, attending the 2026 Met Gala in high fashion armor. The custom look is Bieber and Saint Laurent’s interpretation of this year’s theme, “Costume Art,” with a dress code that encourages attendees to use their bodies as a canvas. Or, in Bieber’s case, an actual mold of her body.
Although the model, 29, previously attended the event with husband Justin in 2021, the singer skipped the event, taking some much-needed time away from the spotlight after headlining Coachella back-to-back weekends last month.
Hailey Wore Saint Laurent For the Event
GettyThe YSL look features a futuristic 24-karat gold breast plate molded to her body. “I wanted to do something that felt sculptural,” the skincare mogul told “Vogue” red carpet livestream host LaLa Anthony.
The hardness of the bodice is offset by soft, sheer drapery of the skirt and scarf in bold Yves Klein Blue. While the particular shade has its own significance in art and fashion, the color may also be a sweet nod to Bieber’s one-year-old son, Jack Blues.
Bieber seems quite happy with the look, joking to Anthony that if Saint Laurent’s current designer, Anthony Vaccarello, “doesn’t want to keep it, I would.”
The star also told Anthony that she prepped for the big night by listening to Rihanna, and it’s safe to say she wasn’t alone in that.
The choice of fashion houses should be no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention to Bieber. Just last month, she starred in a new campaign for YSL, and yes, she wore blue in the ads, albeit different shades.
Hailey Bieber Has Come a Long Way Since Her First Met Gala
The model formerly known as Hailey Baldwin first attended the Met Gala in 2015 and has been a fixture of the annual event ever since.
In 2018, she memorably walked on the red carpet on the arm of then-boyfriend, singer Shawn Mendes, both wearing custom Tommy Hilfiger. Bieber wore a pale blue gown and topped off the look with pink hair and a flower crown.
GettyClearly, a lot has changed since then. She founded her popular skincare brand, Rhode, married Justin Bieber, and gave birth to her first child, Jack. Bieber has also undergone a major style evolution, swapping the trends of her teens for a sleeker, more mature look. Although the Met Gala isn’t typically the place for minimalism, Bieber’s appearances in recent years have stayed true to her personal style.
Her 2026 look incorporates Bieber’s love of structural pieces with a little extra glitz and a bold color choice for the Met Gala.
