Fans have had to say goodbye to a beloved character in this week’s “Grey’s Anatomy” episode.
On March 19, the fan favorite made their final appearance on the medical drama, as reported by E! Online.
“Grey’s Anatomy” Says Goodbye To Katie As She Loses Cancer Battle
In a devastating episode, the show farewelled beloved character Katie (Samantha Marie Ware).
Katie had recently moved in with Lucas (Niko Terho) and Simone (Alexis Floyd) to receive hospice care, after her diagnosis of stage two gastric cancer progressed.
In a heartbreaking moment together, Katie and Lucas discussed the future they could have had in New York. This led to the pair finally confessing their feelings for each other.
Meanwhile, Simone was concerned at Lucas’s inability to separate his feelings for Katie from his doctorly duty. TVLine reports he went against Dr Bailey’s instructions not to over-drain Katie’s fluids, and rushed to Grey Sloan Memorial to get more canisters for draining, despite Simone warning him it was too soon to do so.
However, in a tragic twist, Katie passed away before he made it back home. The character died offscreen.
“I always had it in the back of my mind that it was going to happen, but it didn’t really become real and the whole devastation of it didn’t really hit until it actually arrived,” Terho told TVLine.
Terho Reveals What’s Next For Lucas
GettySpeaking to TVLine, Terho revealed his “Grey’s Anatomy” character is in for a tough time in future episodes.
“He’s going to blame himself. You can’t not,” he said. “He wasn’t present with her in her final moments.”
“He knows he should have been there, and that’s going to weigh on him deeply,” he revealed.
Additionally, Katie’s death will be “a big catalyst” for Simone and Lucas.
“We’ll see how they navigate it. They’ve never navigated this amount of anger towards one another, from either direction,” Terho said.
“So it’s a big hurdle for them and their relationship, whether it’s friendship or romantic. How it moves forward from here is going to be tough, but we’ll see how it plays out.”
Another Star Promises Audiences Will Be “Riveted” By New “Grey’s Anatomy”
GettyKim Raver, who plays Teddy on “Grey’s Anatomy,” revealed to US Weekly that future storylines will provide fans with plenty of drama.
“A couple of scripts came in [recently] and I was like, ‘Oh, my God.’ It gets messy and it is so Grey’s Anatomy,” she said.
“I just love it so much.”
Raver divulged the storylines come as a surprise to the cast, as well as to fans.
“We’re all reading what’s happening [during a table read], and I love it. Some of us are in scrubs, some of us are in our street cloths,” she said.
“Then, when we find out the information, it’s a shock and a surprise to all of us. We are like the audience, too, and then we look at each other like, ‘This is really happening.'”
