Kate Walsh is trading in her “Grey’s Anatomy” scrubs for a new role in the upcoming CBS comedy. The fan-favorite actress has been tapped to play the lead in “The Tillbrooks,” taking Walsh back to her acting roots.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Trades in Drama for Comedy
Deadline was the first to break the news that Walsh is coming back to TV, and this time it’s not just for a visit. Walsh will star opposite “Jumanji: The Next Level” actor Rhys Darby in the new CBS pilot “The Tillbrooks.”
The comedy puts a new twist on the classic multi-camera family sitcom. It focuses on the Tillbrooks, an upper-middle-class family in the 19th century dealing with life, love, and so many scandals.
Walsh leads the show as Jocelyn, the matriarch of the Tilbrooks family. The character will give Walsh a chance to show off her musical side, as Jocelyn is described as a theatrical woman who often breaks out in song.
Ambitious Jocelyn isn’t someone to be messed with, though. She’s all about scheming to elevate her family’s status, something very important to her. Darby plays Arthur Tillbrooks, the family patriarch and Jocelyn’s husband.
The rest of the cast includes Hayley Griffith as the Tillbrooks’ oldest daughter, Maureen; Jax James as Maureen’s son, Dougie; Mia Challis as the Tillbrooks’ youngest, Wilhelmina; and Shiv Pai as the family’s groundskeeper, Henry.
Some of Walsh’s former co-stars showed their excitement for her in the comment section of the Instagram post announcing her new gig.
“FABULOUS!!👏👏👏❤️ wrote Kim Raver. Amy Brenneman shared, Whoo hoo!!”
Fans also got in on gushing over Walsh and her lasted TV stint.. One fan stated, “I adore her. I love seeing her on screen !! Can’t wait 💌.” “I’ll finally have something to watch! My favorite diva ❤️😍,” expressed a fan.
Kate Walsh Goes Back to Comedic Roots
While she may be best known for bringing the drama as Addison Montgomery on “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” Walsh is actually a very talented comedic actress. In fact, she got her start on the ABC sitcom “The Drew Carey Show”.
After “Private Practice” wrapped its six-season run, Walsh played the lead role in the one-season NBC comedy “Bad Judge”. Since then, Walsh has kept busy using her comedic and dramatic talents on the Netflix shows, “Emily in Paris”, “13 Reasons Why”, and “The Umbrella Academy.”
Most recently, the actress scrubbed in as Addison on “Grey’s Anatomy” in January, marking her return to the show after a three-year absence.
