Ashley Williams’ real life love story comes full circle in her next Hallmark Channel movie, premiering on August 29, 2026. “Much About Love” has all the ingredients of a perfect rom-com, but look closely and you’ll find there’s even more than meets the eye: one movie with four love stories, all sure to melt your heart.
The new movie reunites Williams and fellow Hallmark fan-favorite Niall Matter, who originally co-starred in the 2020 holiday rom-com “Never Kiss a Man in a Christmas Sweater.” Their new characters — theater director Bea and actor Benny — flirt with a second chance romance while prepping a modern re-telling of another great and greatly complicated love story in William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew.” Meanwhile, a third love story begins to blossom between two other thespians, played by Lindura and Jonathan Sousa.
But a fourth real-life love story deserves equal billing with Shakespeare’s tale and the two rom-com pairings, because the movie wouldn’t exist without it. Turns out Williams and her husband, producer Neal Dodson, not only worked together to bring the movie to life, but saved the day with an unplanned cameo for one of the film’s most pivotol scenes.
Ashley Williams Says She & Husband Neal Dodson Had a Blast Making ‘Much About Love’
GettyWilliams played double duty on “Much About Love,” serving alongside Dodson as executive producer. She’s already filming her next movie with pal Alison Sweeney in Canada, but took a break to tell EntertainmentNow how working with her hubby on a Shakespeare send-off was written in the stars.
“Other than Neal Dodson, Shakespeare was my first love,” Williams shared via email. “One of the first things I remember the day he and I met was that he kept handing me plays that he wanted me to read. It was a very nerdy kind of flirting, but it was right up my alley.”
“The most fun I had writing with Neal was breaking the story,” she said of developing the way they’d tell the story of Bea and Benny. “We locked ourselves in the office while our kids were at school and had note cards all over the wall and we kept jumping up and down when we had a good idea. We laughed so much.”
No Shakesperean love quarrels here, though. The only squabble Williams could recall was during one day on set, when she and Dodson disagreed “about the scansion of a Shakespeare line.” She quipped, “And although I was correct, I think I may have been rude in how I said it — which I apologized for, I swear!”
Ashley Williams’ Husband Lends a Hand With Adorable Cameo in ‘Much About Love’
HallmarkThe back-and-forth between Matter and Williams is a joy to watch in “Much About Love,” but one of the most endearing scenes in the movie happens when they grab beers at a local pub, sitting at a table for two. No spoilers here, but part of the scene is shot from above. Too tongue-tied to verbalize how they were each feeling, they start to write down their thoughts in crayon on the paper tablecloth.
“I haven’t spoken about (this) at all,” Williams told EntertainmentNow, revealing that the scene is “completely based on the real life love story” between her and Dodson.
“The paper tablecloth hangs in a frame in our living room now, still with the food on it,” she said. “I think incorporating that real tablecloth story was one of those ideas we had when we were breaking the story and we started jumping up and down.”
But with such a tight filming schedule (Hallmark movies are shot from start to finish in under three weeks), they ran out of time to film the overhead shots of her and Matter writing in crayon. Matter wasn’t available to film on the one day they could pull of the shot, Williams said, “so I just had Neal roll up his sleeves and do it. All those overhead shots you see of us writing upside down? It was my real husband‘s hand!”
In addition to their full circle moment, Williams said she was over the moon about working again with Matter, whom she and Dodson knew would be perfect for the role.
“I just adore Niall Matter,” she told EntertainmentNow. “He’s one of those scene partners where I really truly have no idea what he’s gonna do next. He really keeps me on my toes, and he’s incredible at making fun of me. There’s no better way to make me laugh than to really make fun of me. Niall really nails this.”
Hallmark Channel’s “Much About Love” premieres on August 29, 2026, at 8 p.m. Eastern time and will be available to stream via Hallmark+ the following day.

Ashley and Neal make an adorable couple and I can’t wait to watch this movie. I’m also a fan of Niall Matter!
